Is it possible to pickup Perth FTA TV from Sydney using relatively
cheap equipment? And if possible will it be analog 4:3 or can you get
digital 16:9?

From Sydney, just ABC WA and SBS WA, and regional stations GOLDEN WEST and
WIN WA are available via satellite.
In Sydney, you will only be able to get ABC WA FTA, as SBS WA is now
encrypted, as is GOLDEN WEST and WIN WA being that Sydney is way outside the
Perth/WA licence area.
Forget trying to get access, unless you get access cards sent to a WA
address.
The only cards that now work are the official cards. The new encryption
system being used zaps unofficial cards every 8 minutes.
ABC and SBS services are 4:3 and 16:9 depending on which satellite you are
on.

Gotta be an address in a remote location too. A town with one commercial
TV station relay & the ABC will get you access to Aurora (what the
scheme is called). A town with 2 commercial TV station relays will get
you access to the ABC & SBS only.
Probably $500 all up for the equipment (dish, LNB, card, STB, cable).

Ifs still the same encryption Ird 1+2,"unofficial"cards still work if it has
correct details.Cards arnt being "zapped" they are just rolling plain keys &
updating EMKs which they havnt done for years.

I think the first poster was refering to terrestial transmissions..
And this is not possable , due to curvature of the earth and line of sight
to a transmitter,, Perth is below the horizian in the eastern states
As for the encryption subject,, there is no new encryption, there simply
sending down a lot more ECM and EMM up-dates, and any cards without fully
subscription details on will not up-date, this also applies to plain key
changes, only genuine cards, or clones with full subscriber details will
up-date.

Actually, it *is* possible, just rare. Tropo ducting, sporadic E,
F2-skip etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV/FM_DX
Not that it's of much use to Pete. Sorry Pete! :-)

No Perth signals off air. But if you have the bandwidth and a Slingbox,
you could watch Perth remotely via the internet.
