My old plan expired 2 months ago with Optus and dont know whois offering
the best call rates and best phone for a Plan in this price range.
Optus havent contacted me with any new 24mth renewal offer yet.

Any ideas?

Btw, can you get protective covers for flip phones?

thanks.

Also, i need GSM for the coverage and wondered if there are flip phones
which do GSM and 3G. Is GSM actually 2G? Someone at work said the
Motorola V3X does 2G and 3G but he's not sure.

thanks for any help.

Yes, can easily get GSM and 3G phones.

Why not consider a Voda supercap (no contracts) and a purchase plan or
outright phone buy.

24 months is a long time to commit given current technology developments. I
got off that 18month to 2year tread mill with Optus and enjoy cheaper phone
bills and comfort of not being locked in.

Nope, significant worse than both if you spend much time outside the
capital citys.

You can also get handset repayments on a cap plan, non-contract with
Optus. The repayments over 24 months are a little dearer than contract
but you do have that flexability of month to month with Optus if you
prefer it.

Check with your nearest dealer

Agreed, having been a longterm Optus user, the vodafone coverage is not as
good.

Sufficient for my needs, in and out of Sydney metro area but if you really
MUST have great coverage in regional areas, Voda not the best.

Alternatively use a prepaid SIM for the occasional country trips.

The savings are there tho and pays for lots of prepaid time.

Agreed. Outright or MRO is a better way to do it
