Hi there, hope everyone is doing well. I was wondering about laptops. I need to get around a bios password. Do laptops have a jumper on their motherboards to reset the bios? Does anybody know the process to clear them? At this point I'm not sure what kind of bios it is, but could I use a bios hack?
Thanks alot,
Linda

On laptops, bios and hard-drive passwords are more a security feature in case of stolen goods. For most laptops, the only way to clear the password is to call the laptop manufacturer, and if you can prove them rightfull ownership, they will give you a way to remove the password.

Hi Linda
You do not say which make and model of laptop you have and why you need to disable the password. As the previous poster has said, your best option is to contact the laptop manufacturer and if you can prove rightfull ownership, they will help you.

my experience has been with compaq - many had cmos jumpers like desktops
ibm - it was a secret know only to IBM and their
dealers - not to use who were an authorized service center and a " business partner"
i don't think even the util cmoskill
would work on an ibm

Sorry, I've been away for a couple of days. The laptop is a Sony Vaio I'm not sure of the number. My friend just said that it was given as collateral and now it's his. I think he might have some paperwork but not sure what at this point. Thanks for the help.

If it was given as collateral, that means he is to give it back at some point in time. He might be better off asking the computer owner for the information requested.
