Is it because the phones are then used in a 3rd world country? Are
there reuseable parts? Are there dangerous components?

Should I recycle accessories like chargers etc?

of phone recycling.

Back some time ago, some old "recycled" phones ended up in Kiribati
along with some old analogue cells. This was part of an Australian
Government program helping the country set up it's communications
company TKSL. I do believe the old gear has been retired now.

Not sure if phones are reused any more.

A friend of mine collects scrap metal and gets money for scrap PCBs,
last time he was paid around $700 for a small trailer load of scrap!

There are small amounts of toxic material in electronics and more so the
batteries, but not enough to make any great impact. Some countries now
have compulsory recycling, where the manufacturer must recycle unwanted
products returned by the consumer.
