I found a Samsung Egeo (SGH-A400), gave it to the police but got it
back when no-one claimed it. Doesn't have a SIM and nothing happens
when I try to switch it on. Anyone have any ideas about finding out if
it's any good? I don't really want to spend anything as it may be
worthless.

Likely the battery has gone flat by now.

You'll need to charge it.

As above, but if u don't want to spend money on charger, and don't know anyone who has a charger like that, you could probably sell it on ebay.... but it might come back to bite you if its been blocked.

I took it to Samsung in Abbotsford where they plugged a charger into
it and told me that it works, but the text was in Chinese. I've
downloaded the user manual so I can change it to English. Samsung also
told me that it's an overseas phone and they don't carry parts here.
I'm pretty sure batteries for this model are also unavailable here.
I'm trying to get a cheap or free charger as a starting point.
