Anyone see the latest Hardly Normal catalogue?
A 1 metre HDMI cable is available for the reasonable price of only $299
But I suppose there must still be some poor sods buying these.
It seems any new technology has this "new cable type" issue.
I remember trying to source a cheap firewire cable 7-8 years ago, similar
thing, they were $50 or so at 'major' outlets...

Yes, the ACCC should be onto them for this if they are pushing it on to
non-technical buyers.
I imagine the markup would be around %1000

Yes it would seen hardly normal, now have an accusation with monster
cables,
I see there listing for MINI, which translates to thin, speaker cables is
close to $2 a meter, which sounds OK, until you realize that WES do the same
thing, [soundlink 18 gage] for $56 per 100 meters which works out at 56
cents a meter. And it really is far too thin for anything bigger then a
satellite speaker.
I liked there crappy home theatre set up, [page 15] for $17500, then when
you read the breakdown you find that cables are worth $2000, they call it ,
Complete Monster Conectivity..

But Please, lets not get into a debate about the merits of non-merits of

When we bought a digital video camera we were scouting around for the
gear to transfer the recordings from the camera to HDD. HN's had an
"upgrade kit" consisting of a Firewire card and a cable for about $180.
I got one from a local PC store for $40. It included software (ulead
Video Studio, which I don't think that the HN kit had. Rather, you had
to use the supplied Sony software which we used initially to transfer
via USB cable.

There is no law restricting the amount of money that a product can be
priced at. If people are too lazy to do research then it's their
problem.
> I imagine the markup would be around %1000
As are a lot of products that we take for granted. For example, bank
fees. In real terms what are they worth compared to the actual cost to
the bank of supplying the so called service that they are charging for?
When a bank makes a 4 billion dollar annual profit, what does this
represent as a percentage on a return on its investment?

All the El-cheapo shops have them now, two meters long, USB at one end and
a funny looking socket at the other , three bucks each

Way OT, but...
The real issue is Return On Equity (ROE), not ROI. And with the
exception of CBA and ANZ, our major players aren't performing too well
in that regard. NAG, fergzample, is still sub-18% - low enough to piss
off shareholders and customers alike.

I'm sure there's not, however if HN are saying that this cable is
*needed* for better picture quality, then they are lying, and THAT is
covered by the ACCC.

Except I'm not, and nor are you taking this product for granted. I'm
not aware of any bank fees on my accounts being forced onto me at the
point of sale, for no benefit. They are explained. And if they're not,
then the information detailing what they are can be found or requested.

Dunno, you obviously have a bug up your arse about banks, this doesn't
relate in any meaningful way to the markup on an AV cable, unless you
want to get ultra pissy about it, which I hope you wont.
