Well, I've been playing (over and over) the US demo they got in november of last year for the last couple of hours, I can say is that the days between now and October is going to drag so slowly now that I know what I'm waiting on. :(
The new battle system works so very well, with all monsters appearing on the battlefield, no switching to battle screens, player controlled movement at any time through the battle, the active battle time from FFVIII back again, computer controlled party members (Gambit System); It all goes into taking the monotony that slowly builds in the battles of previous installments.
The battlefield monsters are broken into passive and aggressive, the former going about their business unless you first attack them, then they'll fight back, as well as any other of the same creature in the area.
The aggressive you can chose to attack, or try and avoid, but they'll attack you on sight.
In the field, your party members are all present too, not disappearing into a single member group after any story section of the game. :)
Finally, Dragon Quest (another big Square Enix game) has arrived in australian release too, so I think that will keep me busy for the next few months. :)
