I dunno what happened to the sound at the end though. :(

Are you sure? According to some in here, Toyota killed it by redesigning it
last year.

Somehow this Hilux shouldn't be doing burnouts. Listen to the very
knackered engine.

ToyCo are currently producing rubbish I don't wanna know about,
and it's fugly. Any single cab 4x4 'lux to 1997 is worth it's weight
in gold.

Well, its true that its doing better than the old model, but its fallen
short of Toyotas sales predictions. I read last year that Toyota were
hoping 40-45k sales could be reached last year and 55,000 this year. It
only managed 32,000 last year, and at its current rate, will sell about
37,000 this year.
Speaking of the current model Hilux, I am curious about one thing. Why does
the SR5 model have "TOYOTA" written in huge lettering on the tailgate, while
the 'lower' SR and workmate models tailgates are just blank with no
lettering?

My built in Dec 1990 model LN106 is operating execeptionally
well ATM, including the A/C. It'll spin up the back tyres on
dry road. I'm not sure I would ever want to replace it... just
over 210,000km now, should really service it tommorow.

Cutting off the front IFS and properly replacing it with live
axle appears to be not too hard from what I've seen for 1997 on.

This has always been a FAQ type question, for example mine does not
even have the raised "TOYOTA" lettering in black, only in white, and
that's a good thing, however you will see a lot of 1990s models with
black lettering.

ToyCo get up to stuff they feel like at the time, and change their
mind from time to time, Meh, whatever.

They have so many model variants on the first wide-body Camrys, you need a
book to work the codes out...

The Ture Hilux dies as soon as it was stopped being made in Japan.

Any ex Japan Hilux demands much better resale these days over the Thai ones.

Agreed but my Hilux is also a IFS and I use it 95% on road as well. If I
ever get enough cash to afford a spare one it will be live front end for
sure.

thats right, but until they make a quick change front end I'll always
prefer the solid front

BTW converting a leaf sprung hilux to coils isn't that hard using
Bundera or (early)prado parts

comfort of coils and better offroad articulation better than leaf springs

they did away with the raised lettering and now just use stickers
for years they all had raised letters moulded in the sheetmetal, some
had the letters painted and some didn't, but you could always tell it
was a Toyota

I used to have a link to a web page that had the entire worlds Toyota codes

even the humble Hilux had many variants

like did you know that Toyota made a Hilux extra cab with extended body
back in 85(as they did with the post 89 models here), we only got the
shortened body type here

Landcruisers were available in mid wheel base in the 40 series and the
shorty 40 with Hilux engine and running gear(I knew someone with one,
2.4L diesel and hilux gearbox, xfer and axles)

and the list goes on
