Why is it that carmakers think they can attach to the label "sports" to
everything and get away with it?

IT'S A LUMBERING 4WD!!! It's not a sports car. You have the Lancer Evo
for that. Those are two different machines.

To be fair placing "S" badges on some Aussie made cars, along with the
odd pin stripe and spoiler kit does not a sports car make either.

People lap this stuff right up.

I've seen a few 4x4's with added badges.
A Patrol with a GTR badge on it.
A Territory with XR6 badge on it.
A Landcruiser with a sportivo badge

Nah, someone like Ford will bail em out if that happens.
They need a decent car to replace their Jaguar lineup.

I saw one in the metal yesterday. Not too bad looking. A huge leap forward
on the standard one. They got rid of the ugly nose. If Mitsi did that to
the 4wd Magna they would of sold a heap of them.

But it's all relative.

Is the EVO Lancer a "sports" car, compared to say, a Ferrari F40 ?

They are still family sedans.

Is an HSV a sports car? No, it's still a family sedan (perhaps just a more
"sporty" variety).

> People lap this stuff right up.

Doesn't mean they'll win any races.

I think they categorize F40s as "Supercars". From memory, the qualification
for that was that they could do 0-100km in 5 seconds or less.

Yep. In fact the FQ400 version in the uk had no trouble keeping up with a
Murcielago around the top gear track.

They can't possibly use a criteria like that. Way too many fairly ordinary
old pushrod V8 engined cars can do that. Particularly autos. :-)

I was just checking wikipedia regarding supercars (apparently it's 4
seconds!), and found this:

Where can I get one? Anyone got one for me, I have a lazy $200...
