View Full Version : doing a runner...car accident on Sat night.

I was driving in my quiet little Caulfield (near the racecourse) on Saturday
night and two cars in front of me at the intersection of Booran and Neerim
Rd, I hear a BANG!
It seems biggish, I flick my hazards on and jump out to see whats happened.
A 4wd got collected by a 92 Civic which must have run a red light or
something.
The Civic driver was bleeding from the head a little (no seat belt?) and his
passenger was in shock. they were both 20-25. I went back to my car to get
my first aid kit and in 60 seconds when I returned both had pissed off in
different directions!
Took the keys, left a dozen beer bottles on the passengers floor and bolted.
Drink driving? What's gonna happen?

If its the owner ( not stolen) then over time will be dragged into court
and reamed , leaving the scene , depending on how quick a booze
calculation may be done if the coppers attended .

Well, the Police will easily find them.
After that it's up to them what the charge those morons with.
You may well be an important witness :-)

Who cares. If they both ran, there's no problem.

Um,
Do you mean:
Both occupants of the Civic pissed orf?
Or both occupants of the Civic pissed orf AND the 4WD with it's
occupants pissed orf?
That would leave nothing but prang debris, two vehicles unattended, or
only one?
Lets assume that the Civic's occupants were the ones that did a
runner.
They've played before, because they took the keys. I'll let you work
that one out. Hope you remembered the exact time of the prang. Or
someone else does. That way 'Justice' AKA GovCo blame-fixing
And I have to add which will draw crabbs of course.
With the penalties for DUI of 'whatever' going up ever other day, and
Insurance Shysters refusing to pay out for prangs involving naughty
behaviour prior, I'd suggest anyone able to piss orf if they're
physically able might just be smarter than the average bear. So there.
And readers should spare the usual 'If it happend to you' bullshit.
We can all do without that self-serving shite covering for disgusting
laws and even more disgusting Insurance Shyster behaviour.
Like, it's all OUR fault that the piss is advertised/purveyed on every
street corner?

What about the other vehicle involved.
The one would have some damage.

No, it was only the civic boys who did the runner.
The family in the 4wd just sat there like stunned mullets! Like youd let
them get away!
Technically, I dont think the driver can get done for drink driving unless
he is tested - he would have gone to the friends house overnight and
pleaded:
1. stolen car (stupid, cos hell get id'd)
2. he was scared, his friend was drinking.
Hell get careless, leaving the scene etc, and a fair bill for his civic. The
4wd was hardly scathed.

Had a simular experance out the front of my house one sunday morning, two young blokes in a telstra tried to take the roundabout at about 100k lost it mounted the r/h footpath crossed to the l/h footpath and finally mowed down the bolards outside the school ,totaled the car and took off leaving a bottle of scotch and a bottle of coke behind and a bong.
Took the police over 1 hr to get there even though the station was only 1km away the towtruck was there in 10 minutes. The police said the car wasnt stolen as the ignition wasn't broken and the doorlocks were intact so they said they were going to where the car was registered.

They both ran. That means they both obviously have something to hide and

I just read the other post. 'Both' didn't mean both vehicles. Clearly there
is an issue to be taken up with the police (although I still don't hold out
much hope).

just because the station is only 1klm away doesn't mean there is anyone
on duty who can attend
this crap about "It took the cops so long to get here, they don't give a
shit"
people need to have a look at how the Police system works
get a scanner and have a listen to the shit they have to do all shift
the number of violent domestics would probably outweigh most of the
other jobs, especially at night
and B&Es and so numerous it takes a long time to attend to them all
maybe iif the Govt spent enough money to more than double Police numbers
you might find the service would improve to an acceptable level

Its not a police problem, if you have 3 cars and 9 coppers looking
after 50,000 then people getting anywhere is going to take time , now if
the state govco spent the money from the slush fund on more coppers we
might see some sense in crim' control.
Other than that I will go put an sks to good use on some punks.

I live in an area where there is little crime, a fair bit of domestic
problems, but generally quiet.
The police are really good and on the ball.
Very few get away in this area :-)

a domestic.

Agreed that a big part of the problem comes from insufficient staff.
Another factor is that a big part of police time is spent doing
paperwork as required by all the beaurocratic BS they are now subject
to. Time spent filling in forms is time away from pursuing crime. Then
when they catch crooks, the brain dead judiciary slaps their wrist and
sends them back to do it again.
A few months ago I read a report in the SMH (which I should have taken
the time to copy down, cos I haven't been able to track it down since)
about a study done by some bunch about property crime. The majority of
property crime is committed by previously convicted felons (no surprise
there). The startling thing though, was that if sentences delivered
involved only a few months more gaol time, property crime would
significantly decrease, simply because the crims were out of action for
a little longer. If we add to that a bit of a deterrent factor (which
the feelgoods try to tell us doesn't exist), and we could have far less
crime if the judiciary would be prepared to hand out appropriate sentences.
