...but the new INXS song. Do any of you think this is a good song - for INXS I mean? As a song I suppose it's OK, but it's hardly INXS. I know it's probably part of starting fresh with J.D. Fortune etc, but by the same token I know an awful lot of die hard INXS fans (of which I am NOT one) who've just dropped them like a hot spud, and in particular hate Afterglow.

What do you reckon?

Next it'll be "Diabolical" :mad:It's a slowish ballad I guess you'd call it LD. Not their usual stuff at all. Pretty Vegas was passable as an INXS track, but this follow up just doesn't cut it for mine.

Yeah, I hate Afterglow...she's a foul mouthed psychotic skank with prosthetic boobs.

Haven't heard the new song but I lost interest in INXS long before Michael had his tragic wanking accident. Most bands evolve over the years and I'd even suggest this evolution is what makes them enduring but I guess it's at the risk of losing some of their die hard fans who's musical tastes don't change. Personally, I reckon they should have quit when Michael did but who knows, maybe they'll just pull it off (pardon the pun).

That's the CD I have in the car right now, and I love that song! I have most of their albums, and this CD is a great comeback for the band personally. Have a listen to "Hot Girls", the track right after Afterglow for the classic INXS Rock...

Oh, and Afterglow has fake boobs? Prove it!!!:p

Hot Girls was the song I had pegged for their second single when I bought the album a few months ago. Obviously that didn't happen, but it will be a single, maybe the next one?
As for afterglow, I don't have a problem with it, it's a soft ballad, INXS had a number of them, it's just done in a modern, play-me-on-the-radio kind of way. If it's not the taste of the listener, it's easy to skip tracks. :)

...and another thing. If you think Michael Hutchence wouldn't have done a song like Afterglow, listen to his solo album (also a great CD), and the tracks 'Possibilities' and 'Slide Away' for similar sounds.

My point was that while they had previously done soft ballads, this just doesn't have an INXS feel. For me anyway. Pretty Vegas DID however.

I'm talking INXS Vs Hutchence Solo. Same as Queen Vs Freddie Mercury solo. Have a listen to Freddie's Mr Bad Guy album or his Barcelona album. Hardly "Queen" material, but I liked it even though it was in no way "Queen" completely different stuff. One was more Jazz influenced, the other Operatic (even though I grant you some of Queens' vocals had an Operatic quality), which was just one thing I love about them.

BTW No-one mentions Brian Mays' (Queen guitarist) solo albums which DO have a Queen-ish sound at times though very different. Roger Taylor (Queens' drummer) also has several CD's out, and was the worlds' first live worldwide internet only concert (from his barn) which I have on VHS, DVD and CD ;)

You lost me there. You never mentioned anything about INXS vs Hutchence solo. That was me. I wanted to point out that Michael Hutchence would have done a song like Afterglow, and it isn't just becuase JD is there now...

If you want a brilliant INXS power ballad whilst Michael was around, try Beautiful Girl on the "Welcome..." CD. Note I can't choose a favourite CD as I like their early stuff (what can beat "Just Keep Walking"?) as well as the later ones on "Kick", "Welcome...", etc. :PI

Well to start off I loved Rockstar and it made me a lot more aware of INXS's history and tracks.

I would say Afterglow, is not an INXS-esque song, but it is a good song and who is to stereotype an artist...?

JD is very good solo, this was shown when he wrote 'Pretty Vegas' alone and performed it very well before he was in the band. And PV is the best INXS song from the last at least 7 years.
