I do live in Perth now but you seem sure I've "never lived a couple of
hundred k's from a computer shop (at least one that knows what it's doing".

Well have a look where Gascoyne and Yalgoo are mate ------- then retract
your dismissive statement while your at it, also Paynes Find and
Sandstone. Then jump in your chariot and pay the fuel costs at up to
$1.80 litre of go juice 2 ways plus the jigging about or costs
As one chap said was only a belt and braces approach but your
continual sniping and anti bush stance out in these parts may earn
you a clip under the lug :) And then probably a couple of slabs and an
invitation to fix all the iffy 'puters out in the places mentioned.
Happy to organise a few home stays for your re-education:)
To get back on topic here is a half interesting read on Malaware trends

I'm not anti-bush (unless you're talking about George W), I'm anti the "I'm
a victim I have special needs" mentality. If you want to live in a remote
area, shit costs more (as it should) and is less accessible (as you would
expect).
And I don't "continuously snipe", I pick the mark quite carefully... :P

Whenever I click on a line with google.com as my home page, I get many many
windows opened such as
http://new.trafficsector.com/
www.click2begin.com
I have pop-ups blocked in Internet Explorer.
I have CA Security running on my PC, with firewall enabled. A daily check of
the hard drive can find no viruses.
CA Security is enabled for automatic updating.
Thank you,
Margaret

Looks like the behaviour of Adware
Try scanning with Spybot or similar program

Fred in addition I would load spy ware blaster there is a new version
out this week. It is unintrusive , free and works a treat in the
background. Also ad aware from lava soft and MS anti spy.
With that suite of tools and say another free app zone alarm
That should give you a half way decent defence against the garbage
getting in . With Zone alarm even if some of the little buggers slip
though it should stop them phoning home etc.
Once you load all those up :) do a back up then clean up by running
search and destroy in safe mode with restore points turned off -------
turn restore back on after reboot. And any cleaning
Then grab a copy of c cleaner Crap cleaner neat little program that
clears out the gunk and keeps machine tidy.
After that visit here http://www.emsisoft.com/en/
The a2 A squared FREE ware has caught a few that all the others missed.
So a spring clean and set up of say half an hour (on a dial up)
and fiddling about in my opinion may save you a heap of later puss & pain.
The more experienced folk on here should be able to comment if I have
bum drummed you.
Good luck with it
Cheers

If this statement is true why do you need the others?

There is safety then there is paranoia I think you are leaning
toward the later.

One good antivirus app and one "GOOD" antispyware app should do the job.
I recommend NIS 2005 along with McAfee antispyware 2005.
Others will have different opinions for varying reasons but the
proof is in the results of the individual.
I have had very good results with this combination.

I will recomend this program.
I would also use this one Lexun RegScrubXP

You could always just not use the net, No chance of getting anything then.

No------- but being in a remote area and needing the machines
not easy to just jump in a vehicle and drive 900 km to the nearest
computer shop. ounce of preevention better than a pound of cure.

Please spare us. Of course, country people are special with special needs
and require more protection. Things are different in regional Australia and
all us bastards in the city just don't understand how special you are do
they.

Retard, all he is saying is he takes the "belt and braces" route, to be
doubly sure.
Do a google on spyware and you will find lots of experts recommending
EXACTLY what he does, Adaware / Spybot / MS Antispyware along with Cleaner
and A Squared which do other jobs.
No one spyware program finds it all.
Faaaaark.....

Neither of the above are any good at all. They miss a great deal more than
half of what is about - and I happen to like Mcafee antivirus, too and use
it. Waste of time using them to get rid of spyware. You may as well put your
faith in MS Antispyware if you think the above will work. All 3 equally a
waste of time.
What you really need is to run Adaware first, spybot second (after updating
both) and not at the same time. When they are both finished and shit gone,
get out HiJackThis and check out what is left. Once that is done, a great
deal of it will be gone but of course there are so many other things going
on without being detected, anyone thinking they are all gone is living in
lala land.

Yes, nothing wrong with that

Nothing wring with that either

He implied that because he's in the bush everything is somehow different,
and this is the reason for the added precautions.
In truth, it's more about browsing habits and personal preference.
By the way, which hole did you just crawl out of? Or are you a regular fool
with a new alias to escape your foolishness?
