Instead of deleting them try this tool:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_hotfix_backup.htm

It also removes the registry entries and add/remove entries so that
windows doesn't still think it can be uninstalled.

Hiya Peoples.
This is probably more for the WinXP gurus out there.
In the Windows folder on "C:" drive I have a heap of these files taking
up GIGs of space & I don't know what they're for. They're are called
$NtUninstallKB"numbers"$ ,Where "numbers" being random numbers.
I'm guessing that these files are some kind of backed up uninstalled
files, Correct? Is it safe to delete these files or not? And what is
there purpose?

Thanks in advance.

These are uninstall information for windows updates.
Personally I would leave them but I guess if you need
the room and your system is running fine they could
be deleted.
That is if you don't want to uninstall any windows updates.
I cant see any reason why they would be needed other
than for uninstall purposes.

As I had tons of room, I just moved them to D: drive so the O/S partition is
kept small for imaging.

Can't see why you would need them anyway - if an update fucks up, uninstall
it, if not chuck it after, say, a month.

They add up - about 600Mb I should delete so thanks for the heads-up.
