Uninstall Nero and reinstall after removing all the folders from the Program
Files folder and registry. C if that fixes the problem.

well if you have been burning at full speed with the same media before.
Then re-install Nero, ASPI and then the firmware. In that order.
That's all I can suggest. Apart from re-installing SP2 or do a clean
install.
Cheers

I have an LG 4163 burner that's had not too many burns but as of last night
(probably earlier as I've not burned anything for a number of weeks) has
started to read & write (Nero, Shrink & Decrypter) at single speed.
(When burning, nero recognises an 8x disk and says it is burning as 8x, but
of course an hour to burn the disk is 1x)
I am running XP Pro with SP2 installed as of a month or so ago so I am
thinking that maybe this could be the cause.
It seems to be a common problem with XP (and maybe SP2) but I have checked
to make sure that the IDE channels are all running as DMA and have even
uninstalled the IDE channels twice for them to reinstall on restart.
I have checked in the Decrypter settings that ASPI is loading - initially
only the XP replacement SPTI driver is installed and it won't let me change
to WNASPI32.
I then downloaded Adaptec's latest ASPI drivers and used ASPICHK prior to
install to show that none of the ASPI (ASPI32.SYS, WOWPOST.EXE, WINASPI.DLL,
WNSASPI32.DLL) files are installed. FOLLOWING the Adeptec install
(install.bat xp32) only ASPI32.SYS and WNSASPI32.DLL have been installed.
Still the burner reads/writes at 1x.
I have yet to try ForceASPI, but before I do (when I get home form work),
has anyone any further solutions to this problem...??
Cheers,
Gavern

Nahh.. is the same spindle that I have been using for a few months now.
Even if it were the media, that wouldn't explain the 1x reading....
Thanks anyway,

SP2 broke a number of apps, so that's a possibility. Can you uninstall SP2
long enough to see if "normal ops" resume?
