Man, you must be hammering the crap outta that keyboard! I've had my
Logitech cordless keyboard for over 2 years and it's still on the
original batteries even as I type this message.

It's the mouse that sucks the batteries. It's good if you have several
sets of NiMH batteries and a good charger, but getting a good charger
like a Maha brand one in Australia is very difficult. I also have a
Logitech cordless mouse and keyboard, and they're very nice, but every
so often the batteries in the mouse die in the middle of an online game,
and that often leads to taking a loss against an inferior opponent.

I gave my Logitech away to a friend and bought the MS wireless optical
the Logitech battery life was a few weeks compared to the MS battery
life of a few months.
I thought the Logitech needed an on-off switch but seems it just needs
better power saving technology

Christ, my Logitech (mx700) is lucky to last a week or two on a set of
batteries, depending on usage.
Extremely accurate though, so a tradeoff is inevitable.
Came with a pair of 1800mah NIMH AA's, base station charger packed it in a
few months ago, just using a Grandcell charger at the moment - it would be
lucky to half charge them, that may be the root of the problem ;)

I'm using one of the earlier logitech wireless mouse+keyboard combos of
their current shape, so I'd bet that has something to do with my battery
life issues. I really like the wireless keyboard, but I think I'm going
to go with one of their new wired optical gaming mice sometime in the
next year. I have two systems on my desktop and use a KVM, so the fewer
wires the better!
Cheers,

I ordered a Maha MH-C401FS and absolutely love it for charging
batteries. I bought some Powerex (another Maha brand) NiMH batteries
with it and they outperform everything I've purchased locally. I think I
ordered it from thomasdistributing.com, but there are other places that
sell Maha chargers including one in NZ, IIRC. If I ever have to replace
it, I'll buy another Maha.

Well.. just think that it is not fun to have to change batteries while you are
in the middle of doing something. I think those mouse with rechargeable
batteries built-in would be better.. but keyboard, still a problem. Rather use
an old style one..

Maha chargers are very easy to source locally.
Email lionel.chan [at] acupuncture.net.au[stralia]. AFAIK he is the only
Maha charger reseller in Australia.

I discovered the MS vs. Logitech difference when I upgraded my system.
I set up my old system for my Mrs. to use but had to get her a new mouse
being the MS version, Here I was after 2 sets of batteries in the Logitech
looking at her mouse thinking, damn that thing is good, well imagine
what I was thinking after the sixth set, when it eventually needed batteries
I think I was onto set eight or nine in the Logitech.

The only mice that make any sense at all is the wireless optical mice that
plug into a charger by putting the mouse on the charger like the MX700.

No way Rod - you're too Logitech addicted.
The MS Wireless Optical 2 mice are great and run at least 6 months on 2 AA
alkalines.
And you get warnings ages before they fail too. Plus they are a great shape
to hold.

No thanks, that fucks the portability you get with a
wireless mouse if you have to use it on that pad.

Yeah, never liked their quality myself.
The only problem with the logitech is that the letters wear off the keyboard
keys.

Bah humbug, my basic MS wireless keyboard mouse setup has had three sets of
batteries, four of which were used and scrounged out of the drawer and the
keyboard is still on it's original batteries. A month shy of a year, that
combo works well enough for me.

I agree re: A4Tech items. I've had issues with them. About as cheap as
I'll go are Genius mice. I also haven't had issues with Logitech
keyboard letters, and I've been using this one since 2002 IIRC. All the
letters are as they were the day I bought it, but at the time it was a
top of the range wireless combo, so that might have something to do with
it. While I don't like how the old wireless optical mice from Logitech
(the ones without the recharge base stations) such NiMH batteries dry, I
prefer the performance quality and feel of the mice over Microsoft brand
optical mice. I've had a few, and didn't like any of them. Even low end
Logitech optical mice don't jump around like the MS mice did, especially
the cheaper ones.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

I've had mine since Sep-03 and the keys have been pretty bad for
the last 6 months on the worst keys, no letter left at all on the worst.

Nope, so was mine, cordless mx duo.
Had the same problem with the MS keyboard before
that too, and it was the top of the line at that time too.
I did check with Logitech that the labels on the keys are
covered by the warranty, MS tried to claim that theirs wasnt.
Havent gotten around to exercising the warranty yet, basically
the lack of the letters is less of an irritation than the corded
MS keyboard is, and there is plenty of warranty left to run.
I did intend to monster MS on their warranty, but
put it off until I was using a decent replacement,
then managed to cripple myself just as the warranty
expired so didnt get a chance to fuck them over.

Yeah, I still have the older MS optical mouse that I only use when
working on a system that I cant use the KVM or Synergy with
and its an irritation to go back to it now after the MX700.
Thats one significant problem with these high end mice, even
just the location of the back and forward browser buttons on
the mouse is enough of a nuisance when changing betwee them.
> I've had a few, and didn't like any of them.
I didnt mind mine until I started using the MX700.
> Even low end Logitech optical mice don't jump around

Mine doesnt jump around at all, Intellimouse optical.
Main problem is that its corded and I will never use
anything except a decent cordless much anymore.
