I got a hold of a USB connected portable hard disk (a "Blaze" enclosure
and 2.5" 20 gig drive inside). It works fine under Windows XP Pro.
Tonight I plugged in one of my normal USB thumbdrives. While Windows go
"gudoonk" when it's plugged in, Explorer is not seeing it.

Thinking that maybe the HDD unit is interfering somehow I disconnected
it. No go. Still can't be seen. I then rebooted the machine. Still no
go.

The thumbdrive is there as the "safely remove hardware" icon is in the
system tray and its properties sees the thumbdrive and it's associated
with drive "F".

I then shelled to "DOS" and logged it the old fashioned way. Sure
enough, there it is. But for whatever reason, Windows Explorer can't see
it.

Any ideas?

Try changing the drive letter.

Right click My Computer
click manage

Find Disk Management.
Find your drive
Right click - change drive letter and path.

Thanks. That did the trick.

Now, WHY did it do this? The thumbdrive, under that section was listed
as F:. I changed it back to E: and it became visible in Explorer.
