Unlike FAT where you can easily access the data on a drive by using a DOS
boot disk, it's harder to access the data on a NTFS driveif something should
go wrong.

At a command Window, type:

Convert X: /FS:NTFS

(where X: is the Drive in question)

Its standard in XP, use the help.

You dont get as good a result as formatting it in NTFS
and copying the data to that drive from the FAT32 drive.

Working at present trying to get a friend's pc up to scratch.

Bought in Thailand, had pirate copy of XP (called XP 2000) with no service
packs, FAT32 file system, full of malware, viruii, and trojans, and only 120
mb ram.

Real shitbox.

U mean, the system will b too slow, if it converted from FAT32 to NTFS,

No, that it doesnt use the same cluster size when converted.

Thanks. That did it. (With a couple of warning messages about "detaching"
the drive, which I ignored)

Nope, it uses a too small cluster size.
