View Full Version : DVDXCOPY problem!

Hi Guys,
Sometime I use DVDXCOPY to duplicate original DVDs and found it
doesn't work with certain DVDs. It takes ages to read with 1GigHertz PC I
hav and even doesn't burn the copy at all. Anybody out there with similar
experience with DVDXCOPY. I use the simple mode to duplicate DVD movies and
found it's not possible with the "Soprano" DVDs my friend has. What is the
reason?! Should I use a different program than DVDXCOPY?!
Thanx

DVD shrink is much better, haven't had it fail yet.

Not familiar with the DVD's in question or with DVDXCOPY but I've found that
some DVD's of TV shows split into episodes are problematic.
Simple mode may copy the movie only and not the trailers, director's
comments, menu structure etc.
You need to do a clone of the DVD for it to be successful if there are
separate titles on the disk that you want to access.
Unfortunately in many cases this results in a significant loss of quality on
a single layer DVD as many of these disks are close to maximum capacity and
are dual layer.
I find it best to re-author the DVD and split it to two disks using an
authoring program.
I personally use TMPGenc DVD author although there are many others.
If you're not too concerned about video quality then just make sure you copy
the entire disk.
As another poster suggested DVD Shrink will do the job but make sure you
don't select re-author.
You need an entire disk copy.

Try the remake of "War of the Worlds" with it, then. The original DVD holds
more than you can record to DVD -R (that is a DVD - not a DVD + ) and then
when you cut out the superfluous crap so you can fit the stuff you want, it
doesn't seem to be successful. Pixelates everywhere. Will have to try it
again.

Ripping Pirates of the Carribean worked flawlessly, but the audio would be
out of sync every time and with every program I tried including DVD shrink.

But that is the only movie that failed to work properly using DVD shrink
though.

Was fine here using CloneDVD.

The protection systems are starting to really piss me off. I bought toy
story 1 and 2 for the kids, but they would not even try to play on the kids
dvd player (cheap kmart job)... But dvdshrink copied them fine at least and
now the kids play the copy... Talk about a waste of time...

Tip I have worked out - audio sync can be stuffed up by whatever else is
running on the computer at the time. So try disabling virus scanners and if
you run something like Boinc that chews up processing cycles, turn it off
before doing the copying. You *MAY* find that it works this time but I am
not going to put money on it. At least you could try doing that and view the
files on HD before burning to DVD just to be sure.

.....which isn't a bad thing - making the kids use the burned copy. At least
when the stuff the DVD, you can burn another! Better than stuffing the
original!

Tried to do it to Ice Age for the GCs and it does everthing pefectly except
frigging play.

Thought it may be something to do with the inf and exe files in the root -
dunno, just a thought.

Used AnyDVD, CloneDVD2, Shrink and CloneDVD - all cactus.

At least the young one has stopped shoving CDs into the gap under the DVD
drive - found about 12 games inside the case. Hence the need to copy as they
came out pretty scratched.

I used DVD Clone for the first time last night to burn a copy of one of the
kids movies. It worked great. Just using the 14 day trial. Is $150 typical
of these programs? or are there cheaper alternatives?
Also, does it matter whether I use DVD-RW or DVD+RW disks?

DVD Decryptor and DVD Shrink will do what you need and are both free.
Or you can buy CloneDVD and AnyDVD online as a bundle for $52US which is
good value as they are very easy to use and mostly work well.
CloneDVD occasionally has trouble with forced captions but this will only
effect a small number of movies (Kill Bill is one), and AnyDVD will also
remove copy protection from audio CD's so you can make a back up for the
car.
DVD RW discs are generally more expensive than write once discs, which can
be had now for around 40c each.
DVD+R were preferred by some a while ago for compatability with more
standalone DVD players but that doesn't seem to be as much of an issue now.
DVD-R are more common and generally cheaper.

I looked at DVD Shrink last night, and went top download it, but they wanted
cash per year or something. May have just been the download site I was at?

It may be the problem, but Pirates was the only DVD that had the audio
