Hi all,
Anyone using any of the 256mb 7800 GTX video cards?
I was looking at getting the Asus version of this card....was wanting any
opinions on it?
Rest of system is p4 3.6, 2Gb Ram.
Thanks

If the 256 6800gt is anything to go by then I would say that this card your
looking at rocks. Had mine since August last year and never seen it put a
pixel wrong yet (any game thrown at it with all settings up high run
smoothly with great fps) I heard/read the 7800 GTX apparently goes harder
than 2 6600 cards in SLI mode.

And the x1900XTX goes about as hard as 2 7800gtx 256mb in SLI!!
I'm usually a nvidia man myself, but ATI has the better card out at the
moment.
But Nvidia will then come out with 7900GTX (32 pipelines) which will
most likely take the crown back yet again, if only prices came down
abit, ****ing over $1000 for a graphics card! a console is starting to
look like a good option again.

What do you need 2 gigs of RAM for? What is the computer used for?

I'm using the XFX GTX 256 OC version, I believe they all come from the same
factory using the reference design.
the asus has TOP overclocking, but all cards should be the same and clock to
475 (+40) with performance in 'tiers' see
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2479&p=3
the GTX is very quiet and recommended because of that.
if you like to overclock then a 7800GT can give the same real world results
but is noisy- would need another cooler fan.
the new 6800GS would be good on a budget. FYI the AGP version apparently can
be unlocked to 16 pipelines.
so I recommend the lowest price card of each product class as I think they
are all the same, some have more marketing hype- and that costs extra!

Then he may need it for something else. Or he may not need it at all. I
didn't say "you need 2GB of RAM".
