During my skype sessions the sound from the other party is dropping out at
increasingly regular intervals - most recently after only 5 - 10 seconds of
conversation. Problem has been getting progressively worse over the last
few weeks. Initially thought it was other party's microphone, but have
clearly established that the problem is at my end as it is happening with
all my skype contacts. I am sure it is not the headset or audio card as
such, as other media (CD, DVD, onboard TV card) all seem to work
faultlessly, and I have checked the physical connections at plug. I use
both headset and speakers simultaneously, and dropout occurs in both devices
simultaneously.
I have reinstalled a newer version of Skype (v.2.0), and reinstalled my
soundcard drivers, to no avail. The video signal keeps coming when the
sound has dropped out - so not a bandwidth constraint. Sometimes the audio
does return.........if I have the patience to wait for 20 - 30 seconds or
more, but will drop out again soon after.
When the dropout occurs I terminate the call and redial, and invariably the
sound returns, but only lasts for a short while - now a few seconds - or if
lucky, maybe a minute or two. Have been running Skype for about six months
with no problems until about a month ago. Am using broadband, pentium 4,
2.4ghz, Realtek ac'97 onboard sound, 512mb memory, etc., so do not
understand. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have also posted
to Skype technical help, but no response yet.
Many thanks,
