CAN'T VIEW RUNNING PROCESSES IN TASK MANAGER

[Ext User(Jay Lu)]

Whenever I run task manager in XP. It only shows me the APPLICATION TASKS
running. I don't have the option of changing to PROCESSES, PERFORMANCE or
NETWORKING. It appears that even my toolbar for Task Manager is missing.

The only options I have are to END TASK, SWITCH TO and NEW TASK.

Can anyone help me restore my task manager to original.

I came across this on a mates PC a few weeks ago.
I cant remember the names of the .exe files but none
of the scanners I tried would detect it at that time.
I removed it by booting in safe mode and deleting the
..exe files and removing the reg entries.
It may have been this.( see below)

Try running " regedit " if this wont run, This along with
a crippled task manager are two symptoms of the
W32.alcra.F or similar worm.

Just for the slow learners in the group.
Yes it could be running in small foot print mode.
But as stated in earlier post, If you find other symptoms mentioned
then look towards a more sinister cause.
