Is there a better performance car in the world than a Mitsubishi Evo
Tommi Makkinnen.
having witnessed the Dutton Rally this weekend, Its hard to believe
that near stock (exhaust and boost only) 5 year old Mitsubishies can
beat Porsche GT3, Porsche Turbos, Lamborghini Gallardo, Maserati
Gransport, All modified WRX/Sti, Holden and Ford V8s and turbo 6's a
460 Kilowatt, supercharged beast and even mildy modified GTRs.
Whether its laps of a circuit, a hill climb, or even drag racing, these
cars come in to their own as possibly the best BFYB performance cars
ever built.
And for $40k you get a Ferrari/Porsche Eater.

How is that relevant as there is No mention of an EVO 6.5 TME competing
in those fields. Plus turbo cars are weight penalised and have
restrictors to lower boost in Australian racing.
Very similar to STis being banned from Targa tasmania for the first 10
years.
Im simply saying that in real world motor performance not just tracks
Vs quality of drivers and mods that a $40 k evo 6.5 TME is pretty much
the weapon of choice.

I agree. Having driven a couple of different Evos they are absolutely
stonking machines.
They have an unfair reputation as rice burning cars for car park racers
but they are truly awesome when you wind on the boost and lateral
g-forces. For the price they are even more impressive.
I remember a car mag comparison which had the latest 9 lapping similar
times to an F430.

You got it, Dan :-)
PLUS, it blows blue smoke around 180,000km..
Crap car like the rest of the range.
Those who like them, buy them, loose a fortune and have to dump it before
it wears out (160,000- 200,000km).
Some other asian vehicles (Toyota) can DOUBLE that mileage.....

Are you kidding, 160,000km??
find me a car thats been raced for 100,000km that doesnt blow blue
smoke.
Are some of you guys lady bowlers???? (TIC)
what im talking about is spending $40k and pissing on everything else
in its site.. Im not talking quality, fuel economy, reliability, hi
fidelity sound with woodgrain dash. Im saying if you could afford 1
street car and wanted to race a $200,000 HRT 427 on sunday at the creek
and beat it... A $288,000 Porsche GT3RS at WSID on Wednesday, Do a
tarmac rally the following weekend and use it to go to and from work on
other days what else can you buy?
put up a Nomination and be serious: surely you know that toyota does
not make performance cars any more...

Depends on what you want it to perform at. I imagine it doesn't perform too
well crawling through any major city's <30km/h traffic?

As much as I like the evo I think a lot of it has to do with the drivers of
the other cars being pussies. I blew away 3 Bullet Roadsters and a bunch of
other exotica at the Sandleford Sprints in my GTR mainly because they were
driving very very sedately.

the magic word is T R A C T I O N....
GTR and EVO are weapons of Choice, but unfortunately the GTR is not
made anymore. At Most sprints there is always the pussies and the balls
and all racers.
Have you seen the black R32 GTR stroked to 3.1 litre raced by Berry and
Newman. Must be Australia's best all round car.

Yeah, as long as the vehicle can go round the track.!!

The bullet roadsters claim a 12 second quarter mile. The GTR was pretty
quick though. The only mods were intercooler, more boost, exhaust and
induction.

It's the low CR and decent drive-line design that achieves that.
IMHO, that's the point of turning a shopping trolley into a race car.
It's still a decent shopping trolley:-)
