This game seems to crash an awful lot for me. Anyone else experiencing this? It's not like the system doesn't have enough "grunt" for it:

PIV 3.0Ghz
2GB RAM
256MB Video Card (AGP) (nVidia) - on the approved cards list for the game (FX 5700)
SB Live! 5.1 Sound Card
Heaps of free disk space
DirectX 9c

All latest system and game patches installed. Still crashes. I can tell when starting the game up if it's going to crash, as the sound in the opening doesn't work - not the Bethsheda screen, the one where the word "Oblivion" fades/moves in, and the subsequent menu screen.

Anyone else had similar problems? Nothing I can see on the website, and no express messages when it does die.

I'd say the video card doesn't have enough 'grunt' maybe?
My system:

Athlon 64 3500+
1Gb Ram
256mb 7800gtx
Onboard sound

Not one problem since I reinstalled it for the new video card. The old 9800 used to give me a few CTD's though. By my understanding, the 9800 is ~ the 5900 mark, the model after the 5700, so by that thinking the card is getting overloaded with textures etc.?

Nice system, i think you should upgrade the RAM soon and onboard sound .. are you sure :pirate:, Does your card have T&L Support? Try downloading the latest drivers for the card.

Andrew']Nice system, i think you should upgrade the RAM soon and onboard sound .. are you sure :pirate:,
I'm perfectly happy with my system as it is, Ram is not a needed factor.
As for the onboard sound, it's 7.1 audio, with both coaxial and optical S/PDIF (of which the optical is going to an Amp), it's more than adequate.

Biggy is the one requiring the help, and any card over R8500 in the ati range, and Geforce 2 in the Nvidia range has T&L. The game won't even start without it.

The elder scrolls forums (http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/) would be your best bet to find a solution Biggy, I don't believe there are that many of us on this forum playing it, and out of those, I am not, nor have I previously experienced your problem, and Orko is a Bill Gate$ boy, so he's no bloody good. :p

A8N-sli Deluxe.
It's nothing special. Onboard sound has come a long way.

How do you think it will compete against Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value?

True, but troubleshooting a PC game when it's being played on a 360 isn't going to be much help. :)

No idea, I havn't used it. I'd say the levels of my onboard are nowhere near it, there is a reason why it the Audigy's sell for so much. I'm very happy with my setup though.

Sorry Biggy, doesn't look like you'll get much help here.

As a fellow owner of a 5700fx, i'd say the card is definately the problem. It's really the only part of my PC that causes any bottle necks when it comes to games made after 2004. I can't even run BF2 on anything above low settings, and 3Dmark 05 ran at an average of 2fps. Hopefully that will all change when i get my new mobo that will (fingers crossed) actually allow me to use my 6600gt i bought 3 months ago.

Sorry Biggy, doesn't look like you'll get much help here.No worries. Thanks for your help though Linton, and others. The Elder Scroll forums may be the go, as you say. I've been to the site, and the Tech Support section which told me jack, but maybe the forums will.

Thanks all. :)

Or if in doubt, spend $750 on a 360 and the game, and you should have minimal issues. ;) Unless you get a dodgey syste,

nah, add another $200 (the price it'd take to get the 360 up to scratch anyway ;)) and grab a 7950GX2. Mmmm, dual core goodness. Not since voodoo 5 has quad core gaming been so close a possibility. :D

Ive heard that it has major heating issues, and it reminds me, when the hell are the g80cards coming out. There better not be a 7980GX3 ..

I'm refering to HDMI cables, and a wireless network adaptor (add a HD-dvd drive later too).

End of the year at least for g80's, and I have idea about the card you just mentioned, and neither does google.
Think about it though, wouldn't an Nvidia card model # starting with a 7 give you a good idea about which series it's coming from?
