You are so predictable! If he'd been driving anything but a commodore, you
wouldn't have posted it.

No im sure if it had been a magna, he would have posted that also.

I got the XC ute to 160 many years ago! It began to feel like it was going
to take off. Luckily I didn't notice the cops, who had to content themselves
with the bloke I was racing. Heh.

It was an automatic. The car was quite happy to go at any speed, but the
lack of weight in the back began to make its lack of presence felt, so I
stopped accelerating. It had michelins on too (the hard ones), which were
not conducive to road holding (it was jumping all over the place).
I certainly never felt the need to go that fast again.

Changing from 4th to 5th just under the redline in my Megane, while passing.

My V8 has seen just over 200, at the top of 3rd gear (its a 4 speed auto). Of course, it wasn't on a public road.

Or in these cases - at work:
XKE - 155 MPH (road test) [best personal effort]
Cadillac - 120 MPH when I had to take the foot off because the useless tank started to
'fishtail' (road test)
98 Olds - 300 miles in 3 hours. [less than 9 MPG] ... 98 is the model - not the year of MFG.
(ferry)
Back in the good ol' days before radar (or metric) and dangerously overcrowded expressways.

The V8 actually had some more to go, but in the interests of respecting my own limits and experience, and not running out of road, I decided that I would give in first... Anecdotal evidence and road tests suggest a top speed somewhere between 240km/h and 250km/h. I would think it would depend on the day, the weather, the road, the .....

Any race track with a long enough straight portion should do.
