Awesome! I finally cracked the $70 mark but I had to do 600 kms and buy
98 octane when the price was at close to the low point in the cycle.
Bloody fuel light came on and there's still 12 litres left in the tank -
I could have filled up tomorrow and saved a couple more c/l.

Fuel economy for this tank was 8.2l/100kms which isn't bad considering
my 2.0l turbo gets driven like it's stolen quite often.

Interestingly I get the same fuel economy in this 2005 built 1350kg car
with 2.0l turbo 165kw engine as my previous car which was built in 2000
weighing 1200kg with a 108kw 2.2l naturally aspirated engine.

Fortunately the fuel tank in the new car is 10l bigger so I only have to
fill up every 7 or 8 days instead of every 5 or 6 which was a problem
because sometimes I was forced to fill up on a more expensive day but
now I can ensure that I fill up on Tuesday or Wednesday when petrol is
often 10-14 cents cheaper than the most expensive day in the week.

Ben,

Do you want to borrow my 420G ?
Tank holds 90 litres and the tri carb monster uses 19ltr per 100 km around
town :-)

That is why I bought a Subaru Sherpa :-)
Tank hold 40 litres and gives it a range of 700km..

My XJ12 was worse. Twin 55 litre tanks and 4 carbs on a V12. It drank like
Oliver Reed.

What the wise are doing now, is using the V12HE injection motor, ripping
out all the crap and running it on LPG! No fires, no intermittent
starting problems, plenty of power and cheaper to run :-)
