View Full Version : Metz tvs

Hi, I have a Metz Artos 82 Pro CRT television. I have always known that it
was not progressive scan capable but now I have a progressive scan dvd
player and have become curious. After looking at previous model Artos
manuals it seems that the Artos used to have a progressive scan option.
My manual does not mention anything about progressive scan and there is no
option on the tv either. I was just wondering if it was possible for this
progressive scan function to actually exist in my tv and perhaps the service
menu had an option to enable it. Why would they take this feature away when
it was on the previous model? Or perhaps a firmware upgrade is available for
this.
If anybody knows anything about this please reply to this post.
Thank You.

Unless there is some obvious sign of unpopulated components and sockets for
a component input on the input circuit board it is unlikely to be a similar
model with less fruit to cut down the cost. :-(
Like many things made these days, the functionality just isn't there,
thereby increasing the model range and price range of products from
manufacturers. It is possible that some models can be modified but quite
often unless you are a competent DIYer, have the time and know-how, it's
usually cheaper to just upgrade.
Cheers,
Alan

It does have a component input.

On previous models the option was an internal progressive mode.

The TV is definitely capable of it, in fact it possesses an internal mode
similar in process to the Philips models' 'Pixel Plus'.

Try setting you player to progressive mode and see what happens.

I did try it but I get a scambled picture. Also does your Artos have a Film
mode, just curious as to what it is. I have turned it on but haven't seen a
difference. Do you know if NextView works? (is there a station that
transmits the EPG?)
Thanks.

The set doesn't allow a progressive picture on its Component input. I'm
assuming you've checked the setup menu for the component input etc...?
I would not lose any sleep over this. On a CRT TV, even if the TV supported
the progressive signal, it would be pretty much unwatchable, too much frame
flicker (even when showing NTSC DVDs) that's why 100Hz scanning came onto
the scene.

My model is an earlier one, the film mode you mention is possibly the Metz
version of Philip's 'Pixel Plus'. I'd test it out with some busy film
scenes, especially with horizontal panning and see what effect it has.

Don't know about that I'm afraid, great TV though.
