I was going to say, ODD?? until I read it.
I have only seen genuine Utes in 4X4. Did see a blue wagon at a car show
once, it had been converted.

Looks like a lot of problems though for $10k. Although it's not likely to
devalue much if that's what it's worth.

XY Utes are the only 4x4 vehicles that Ford ever made in the Falcon range,
and they only made 432 of those as a special contract order for the QLD &
NSW state electricity commissions for use as service vehicles in remote
areas.
Despite rumours to the contrary, *all* of them without exception were
delivered as per the contract to the Queensland & New South Wales
Governments, and none miraculously found their way into private hands as
brand new vehicles. Ford built the minimum number they were contracted to
built, and all were delivered to the relative government departments.
It was only *after* they had served their time with those departments were
they auctioned off and found their way into private hands, with most of them
ending up as farm vehicles.
Utes were the only body type this driveline configuration was ever available
in, and all were 250 cubic inch non crossflow 6 cylinder powered with a
three speed manual transmission and a spicer transfer case. They also all
had a factory fitted bullbar, with a power take off winch as standard
equipment.

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, but seeing how it's a
"made up" vehicle (it's not factory original), it's value is debatable.

Interesting, Noddy.
I often wondered why they were a one off.
I was in Singapore in 1971/72 so I missed a lot of info on events over that
time.

Sadly no, although I'd hazard a guess and suggest that the demand would have
been pretty small :)

May well have been, as there's still a few kicking around.
A bloke around the corner from me has one sitting in his back yard that he
"always planned to restore", but never got around to it. It's complete and
original, and still ran the last time I saw it a few years ago, but it had a
rather large tree fall right on the middle of it's roof while parked in his
yard and the body is now rooted.

Ford was (according to Wheels) planning to offer the 4WD platform as a ute,
van and wagon with XA, but no coupe or sedan unfortunately. Would have
scared Colin Bond and the HDT rally team.

I think I've mentioned this before but a Ford Tractor dealer(Leo
Wignall) in Euroa had a new 4WD XY in his workshop, I last saw it in
about 1982 and it had less than 10 miles of the odo.
He planned to do a V8 conversion, the engine was sitting in a crate next
to the ute, it had taken him 12 yrs to remove the 6cyl and thats as far
as he got, AFAIK its still where I last saw it 14 yrs ago.
http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~lloyd/4/Ford/XY/
AFAIK it was a Ford built XY 4WD but the web page mentions his name as a
well know convertor of Fords.
One time I visited him he threw me the keys to yellow XC ute and asked
me to test drive it and to let him know what I thought, it sounded a bit
noisy when I started it so I opened the bonnet only to find a 6.248
Mazda/Perkins diesel:-)

Imagine if someone in power at Ford in the early 70's had known how
popular 4WD/AWD vehicles are today.
If Ford had developed a 4WD Falcon Toyota may not have had such a
strangle hold on 4WD sales.
