View Full Version : ABC HD watermark

I just got this reply from the ABC in response to my complaint about their
ridiculously large HD watermark. Its about what I expected but I must say
I'm flabbergasted to see that the HD watermark is apparently optimised for a
4:3 screen. How many 4:3 teles can actually display HD anyway (meaning
Australia's low-brow version of HD)?
Thank you for your email.
The ABC regrets that you find the placement of the watermark on our high
definition (HD) broadcasts intrusive. The ABC is committed to ensuring
that its services are clearly identified on air. We aim to provide an
effective watermark that is not too obtrusive for our viewers.
The ABC's HD watermark was positioned so that only the ABC "worm" logo
would be visible if viewed in traditional television screen dimensions,
and so that the entire graphic would be visible if viewed in HD
widescreen.
Please be assured that your feedback on this practice is important to
us. ABC Television is aware of audience reaction on this issue, and your
feedback will be given careful consideration.
Thank you again writing to the ABC.
Yours sincerely
Cathy Brown

It's time to learn how to use msu logo remover in VirtualDub or Nandub

Most if not all HD boxes have SD output as well (composite or S-video) so
that's not an issue. And ABC has switched/is switching to 720p which is the
same as most US HD.
As for the huge logo, someone suggested on the dtvforum that it may be
reduced in size from tomorrow. Good luck - currently it's a monster!

It can be removed if you really want to spend the time with msu logo remover
in VirtualDub or Nandub. But it is a bore setting it up, there is also
another filter in VirtualDub called 'delogo', not bad also.
