To whom it may concern,

I am looking at getting the new NAD T163/973 combo ($3600) vs a used Rotel
RSP-1066/RMB-1095/RB-1090 ($4000) setup. Which in your mind would be the
better of the two and why?

Which would be better in music and the same goes for home theatre?

How does the NAD T163 compare to the Rotel RSP-1066?

Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks and regards Mark.

And your speakers are, ?????????
Nad tends to like the middle sound, while Rotel accentuates the Base.

It also depends on how "used' is used. With new you get a warrenty, with
used, a warrent just might extend to 3 months, IF you buy through a dealer,
if you buy private you get nak-all.

Sorry, speakers are B&W 802's (1985) and it's actually for my wife's uncle.
The Rotel stuff is about 2.5 yrs old and hardly used and has been boxed up
for the past year.

I've been told that the RSP-1066 is poor compared to the NAD T163 but on the
other hand the Rotel amps would suit his B&W's better, especially the
RB-1090 as opposed to the 973, which I believe would not suit his 802's, let
alone drive them too well.

His preference is for music and then theatre. He currently uses a Yamaha
DSP-2070 for theatre use, which is now very outdated and a Dr. Thomas (Music
Fidelity) amplifier to run his 802's.

He's willing to spend up to $4000 but I can help him look for equipment in
the used arena, where there are great deals to be had.

Cheers!

**B&W 802s are bloody excellent speakers. They deserve excellent
amplification. See if you can find some used ME equipment. An ME75 (B or C
series) and matching preamp will provide stunning results in such a system.
Expect to pay around $2,500.00 for products in good condition.
