View Full Version : 4wd running red in front of police car

Heading down the highway this morning I noticed the front of a police
car in the side street at the next set of lights. The lights went red
and the 4wd in front went through from about 3 car lengths back. I
thought cool could see some action here. Occupants of the 4wd (80's
hilux) were looking out the back to see if the cops chased. I stop at
the lights and the cops go straight across intersection.
The cop car was a Mitsubishi 380.
Could the cops have known there was a good chance the old hilux probably
would have out run them and by ignoring the 4wd saved them certain
embarrassment

I've seen cops go after red-light runners.
Perhaps the cops in this situation had more important things to tend to.

Running red lights is NOT dangerous. It isn't speeding. Although I could be wrong, because they now have cameras that automatically detect people who run red lights - thus, it IS dangerous!

Red light cameras have been around longer than speed cameras.

I don't think so, you never see as many there as you used to in the early
nineties.
Although at a certain Hungry Jacks I know there is sometimes, for some
unknown reason around lunch time, 5-10 police cars gathered together. HJ's
doesn't appear to be the sole reason they're there, though a fair proportion
of them do go in and eat.

Dependent on the city and the exact scenario, I haven't found traffic to
flow any less smoothly when the traffic lights are flashing faulty. With a
bit of practice it would be smoother. I reckon it would be better if they
pulled them all out.

**Uh-huh. When was the last time you were hit by an idiot running a red?
I was. It wasn't any fun at all.

It all depends on the contact points of the vehicles. One of the very
few
accidents I've had was when a taxi ran a red and my vehicle contacted
it on front drivers side fender. If the taxi had been going a little
faster and
the bull bar contacted the drivers side door at around head height of
the
driver, it's anyones guess if things could have been quite nasty.

**One of my mates had a warm 5 Litre V8 installed in his ancient 245 Volvo.
It was hilarious, pulling up beside some wanker and beating his Falca-Dore
with what appeared to be a 4 cylinder Volvo station waggon.

A regular poster, Athol who is a bit busy to post ATM, might know
something about doing exactly that in a Volvo 264 with a 350 :-)
