The special book flips open to cast its unending spell again. The Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter delightfully brings back the characters and creatures of Michael Ende's book for a new tall tale in which Bastian must save Fantasia from an evil sorceress - and find the courage he lacks in real life. Old friends Atreyu they boy warrior, Falkor the luckdragon and the Rock Biter rejoin Bastian. And new creatures Nimbly the bird, tiny Wambos, Mudwart, robotic Giants, Junior Rock Biter and Smerg the dragon, plus an even greater array of dreamlike special effects, add to the thrills. No wonder Bastian's newest adventure is as spellbinding as the first!

Audio/Visual….
The Neverending Story II is presented in 2.35:1 and is 16:9 enhanced.
The layer change wasn't noticeable on this dual layer disc.
The quality of the picture is a pleasant surprise and is mostly a clean and smooth picture with only some of the dated special effects showing some slight imperfections.
This is a very good picture for its age with rich, bright colours that really do stand out in some of the more fantasy themed scenes. A pretty good picture overall.
The audio is in Dolby Digital 2.0 surround and it's sounds pretty good!
There sound is spread well across the room at times with nice directional sound and panning.
The sub isn't really used though, but the front three speakers perform well and the surrounds provide some nice effects and music to the rear of the room which all add to the atmosphere.
Speech is clear, in sync and easy to understand.

Extra features…..

Theatrical Trailer. - Presented in widescreen and is in Dolby Digital 2.0

Cast and Crew. - Is exactly that. Just a single screen that has two open pages from a book with a list of cast and crew.

Overall......
The Neverending Story was a unique movie and years ago when I was a lot younger, I thought it was pretty cool. Well this one, the sequel came along and I didn't bother seeing it as I was older and had no interest. I'm still familiar with the original as my young daughter watches the original on VHS every now and then. Well, after reviewing this DVD I'd have to say that this one is a lot better.
The acting is easily better and although the special effects aren't that much different to the original, they still make this sequel a better movie.
Although there is a lack of extra features, The Neverending Story II looks and sounds really good on DVD and this was a pleasant surprise.
This will keep the kids entertained for many repeat viewings and is already a favourite with our young daughter. Us older viewers will enjoy it too, but I don't know about repeat viewings though.
This is one to own for the kids of all ages and is definitely worthy of a hire for those who are curious about this DVD.

Thanks for reading…
