You'd think the 8 are finalised, but...
There are 4 games left.
Richmond and Brisbane are no longer in contention.
Geelong have to beat any 3 of St Kilda, Sydney, Melbourne and Hawthorn (the hardest path) to make the 4, and any 2 to make the 8;
Fremantle have to beat any 2 of Adelaide, St Kilda, West Coast or Port (not as bad as it seems - all winable) to make the 4, and 1 to make the 8;
Dogs have to to beat any 2 of Port, Adelaide, St Kilda and Essendon (the 2nd easiest path) to make the 4 and any 1 for the 8;
Collingwood have to beat any 2 of Essendon, Port, Carlton and Roos to make the 4 (the easiest path) and any 1 for the 8;
St Kilda have to beat any 2 of Geelong, Fremantle, Bulldogs and Brisbane to make the 4 (difficult) and any 1 to make the 8;
Sydney have to beat any 2 of Melbourne, Geelong, Brisbane and Carlton to make the 4 and any 1 to make the 8;
Melbourne have to beat any 2 of Sydney, Roos, Geelong and Adelaide to stay in the 4 and have made the 8;
West Coast have to beat any 1 of Roos, Brisbane, Fremantle and Richmond to stay in the 4, any 2 to stay in 2nd and any 3 to grab 1st (quite possible);
Adelaide have to beat any 1 of Fremantle, Bulldogs, Port and Melbourne to stay in the 4, and 1 more the West Coast to stay in 1st (quite possible).
This would have to be the most amazing draw for the last month to settle the finals.
Prediction:
West Coast
Adelaide
Collingwood
Melbourne
-----------
Bulldogs
Sydney
Fremantle
St Kilda.
===========
Geelong.
Ya just gotta love footy.

Actually Adelaide have to win 0 games to stay in the top four. Hi Krud :)
Freo are no certaintities for the eight yet. They need 3 wins to be certain
Hopefully the Pies can take advantage of their gift draw and finish top 4.
As long as Adelaide get to play them that is

And we're one game clear of the Eagles, so we don't have to win one
more, just the same amount and we're in. Our percentage should see us
across the line if we finish on equal points. Still all our remaining
games are winnable.

I'd not write off Geelong, although I should. When a side has to rely
on other teams losing games to make the finals, well then they don't
deserve to be there/

I'd fucking love that. We owe them a day-time finals beating. Flogging
them for the night premiership is one thing, but I'm betting that Tyson
Edwards would do enough to get us over the line there. After all the
only way they won that prelim final way back when was by knocking
Edwards out.

Isn't it funny how now the crows are in "trouble".
I've seen talk of Freo beating them at footy park....
the expectation seems to have fallen away from the crows.
one loss and they all remeber the crows of '04
maybe a master stroke to have lost to the weagles...?

I think Blight gave away a bit of the possible game plan during the
commentary. His thoughts were that once you've made the finals you
should slacken off a tad and decrease the pace. That way you can then
increase it after a few weeks and start slamming the results back on.
He felt that the players/staff would go in waves, and that this might be
the bottom of a wave, and then it's back up to the crest. It made sense
to me.
Freo might beat us. Depends on how badly they want to win. Freo have a
habit of going in dirty to harm the Crows. In that case I'd rather the
side preserve players and allow the Freo mob to get players
reported/rubbed out. That'd be a stupid act if Freo did that at this
stage of the season and with them on the brink. As for the Eagles,
better to lose to them now and beat them in September, as opposed to the
other way around like last year.
It's making me chuckle reading Rucci's usual anti-Crows bullshit in the
paper. If they win another flag he'll be finding excuses. It amazes me
how he can put a positive spin on Port and a negative on the Crows right
now. If I were a Port supporter I'd be asking some serious questions as
to why they've lost six in a row after looking decent mid-season.
There's a couple of payers at the end of their career - Bishop, Francou
- and a few players who look all the world like they'd rather be
somewhere else - Dew, Brogan - and some who haven't lived up to their
hype. The only real positive that Port can take from the season is
Pearce - that guy, going on how he's played so far, should guide them to
another flag.

Aye, 50/50 on this one. You can never really back Freo into any game (I
backed them for carlton though others were unsure, was 50/50 on the
hawks) because of their yoyo consistency. It mostly depends on how
accurate we are, and if we can get a higher than normal conversion rate
from disposals/i50 to goals. Roo is out (at the moment, maybe they will
appeal) due to suspension, though he looked partly injured against the
Crows anyhow, and would not have likely broken the game open.
That isn't taking into account the "geelong" factor, where we might not
turn up. Though given what happened then, we have "turned up" to every
game since then.
I wouldn't be so confident about the crows in the final series anymore.
The reason everyone is off the crows is because they got absolutely
belted by West Coast with a sick Judd. Though I'm not sure how much you
know about it, but I thought maybe the reason could have been players
celebrating Roo's 300th the week before? Maybe had a few too many
drinks. It could partly explain the 80 point difference I guess.
I thought maybe it was a plan by your coach for Adelaide to lose to WCE
too, but then there is no real benefit to be absolutely belted by
another team. There might be some benefits to losing slightly "on
purpose" but not a ~80 point belting.
I would probably like to see a WCE vs ADELAIDE (unless Freo can get in
of course) grand final, as long as Adelaide don't play the shitty brand
of football they did against the Dockers earlier in the year. I quite
enjoyed seeing WCE cut them up after that game plan, almost as much as I
enjoyed FREO cutting WCE up earlier, lol.

You're lucky in Adelaide, least the papers aren't completely biased
against one team. I don't think there is one pro Freo paper here. They
all love WCE, and rarely report negative things about them. Meanwhile if
the Dockers win it was because the other team had injuries or because
Connolly listened to the diatribe they posted last week (they take
credit for everything).

Agreed - I meant to write that they have to beat any 1 of the next 4 to grab 1st (possibly).
It's a probability list - not a certainty list. It's quite possible that Adelaide lose all of their last four games. I wouldn't think so, but it's possible.
> Freo are no certaintities for the eight yet. They need 3 wins to be

That's true. See above. But just to remain in 8th, they only have to win 1 less than Geelong do. Winning 2 less than Geelong would be a problem if %age comes into it.

It'd also be nice if the Wobblers lost all four plus had serious injury and/or suspensions.
Either way, it's an exciting last month - that's the real pleasure.

obviously something to it. They are bringing in outside mediators to sort it

It might be prudent to allow Roo to sit the game out, get some rest and
take a loss if need be. He looks like he could use a break before the
finals, and better now than, as I've said, in the finals ala last
season. I'll tip us but only because it's a home game.

Geelong are the dark horses. They'll be going for wins and if anyone
loses a game or two they'll be ready to pounce. Freo will need to be on
the ball and not drop any games if Geelong continue to carry their momentum.

They just stopped playing. Again, Blight's theory appears to be in
effect. We've made the finals, why beat the shit out them side and make
them run and play damn hard before the finals? We're a game clear with
healthy percentage. Let the Eagles win one at home and get a bit of
confidence. It'd be interesting putting the full strength Eagles side
against the full strength Crows side at the MCG. I'd say the outcome
would be vastly different.

It'd be a different game than the one we saw a couple of weeks ago, that
much is a certainty. I doubt very highly that Freo will come close to
the grand final, but hey - odder things have happened. I didn't think
Sydney would even make the GF last year, let alone win the flag.
