View Full Version : Utube Vids Not Buffering
I've noticed something as of lately,
when I play a video on utube, where as it would normally buffer (you'd see a pale gray advancing in the progress bar), it now just shows the relative progress.
This isnt my machine.. so I cant really fool around with it much, /install or reinstall drivers, not to mention I'm on a guest account, so I was wondering if anyone knows a direct cause and fix for this... problem
Thanks in advance peeps

YouTube uses Flash to play all its videos, so it probably has something to do with that. If you are on a fast internet connection, you will not see it buffer because the connection is fast enough to stream. If you are on a slower internet connection, which I am guessing you are, you will probably see the video stop and start a whole lot, which can probably lead to a lot of grumbling (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_YMigZmUuk).
Any idea which version of Flash is installed on the computer? You can find out by clicking this link: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
I have Version 8,0,22,0 installed Alex,
Certainly not the latest, but I know it should be functional.
I've watced Videos on Utube before... and see the lil buffer running as a pale bar.. in the progress bar. What I'm wondering now.. is why I no longer see that (the performance is slower now... which I am associating to that).
I'm on a 128 connection, and things used to run much faster, as well as I'd see the buffer building.
I would install a new version of Flash... and try opera perhaps, but as I explained... I'm on a guest account :(.
Any Ideas?

It looks like it might not matter. I have been doing some reading on the net, and it seems that the buffering is determined at the Flash server side, not by the client. In other words, YouTube's website is probably seeing the 128 kbps connection and thinking, "Nah... I don't need to buffer."
Probably not much you can do about it. :bah:
