Hi all,
Just a general reply to all to give specifics..
I guess it has the 50ltr tank,
Get about 350-380 from filling to the second click to about 25km after the
light comes on (45lt to fill)
It's overdue for a tune up (computer adjustment?)
I bought it 2nd hand 4 months ago and changed the plugs and oil when I got
it.
It's an auto

Shit!!! thats almost 13litres per 100kms, thats piss poor. Im getting that
from my 3.6 V6 Rodeo with 600 Kgs of toold and shit in the back.
Id suggest that you either have a fuel leak or the air filter has been
replaced with a pumice stone or something. You should be getting about
450kms per 45 litres in that car. Check, fuel and air filters, tyre
pressures (a big fuel user if too low), what your carrying in the back
(theres no need to cart around those 4 bags of cement everywhere you go),
and spark plug range. Once car tuned correctly go for a long Sunday run to
recheck your kms range.
Let us know how ya go.

I asked my wife and she says she usually gets 450klms out of 40 lts and
thats mostly short trips which usually uses more fuel.
I know auto Corolla's use more fuel in city type driving but use less on
hwy/fwy driving due to their different gearing.
45lts to do 380klms is just under 12lts/100klm which is very bad for
that car.
Under normal circumstances the only "tune up" you can do is replace
spark plugs and the air filter so it sounds like it has a fault,
possibly a coolant sensor, the engine thinks its cold so it gives it
more fuel.

Is that a computer adjustment or an expensive fix?

It's a coolant temperature sensor replacement but that may very well not be
the problem.
Get it looked at, that fuel usage is excessive for that vehicle.

Only way to know for sure whats actually wrong with it would be to get
it checked by either a dealer or a mechanic with the correct diagnostic
equipment.
It may cost you a couple of hundred dollars but it should almost cut you
fuel consumption in half so you will get the cost back very quickly.

bugger. It's off to the shop tomorrow. Even if it costs $300 to fix the
break even point is around a month.
