Hi, I have a Telefunken TMP420 mp4 player, it needs its video files to be in AVI(eventhough it’s an MPEG4 player) but it’s very picky about what type of AVI file it’ll play & the file conversion sofware that came with it doesn’t work, I can’t find an AVI codec it will accept, Does anyone have any experience with these particular portable video players? & can you recommend to me some software that can create AVI files it will recognise?

I’d use Gspot on a file it will play to find out what codec it wants except I don’t have any files it will play, I can’t find my video cables to record directly to it.

What program are you using currently?

Some software that came with it of unknown publisher, it's simply called "Mpeg4 file conversion" it requires that both DIVX & Virtual Dub be installed, at first it was writing files that would play on my computer with no sound but would freeze up the portable player when I loaded them on it, now it writes 25kb files with no data at all.

You will probably find the DivX6 will create compatible files but you may need to change the file extension from .divx to .avi most players can handle the default DivX profile, I'm not familiar with your particular player but Telefunken is a brand in name only, that device will be made by someone else anyway.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a try.

No luck, I managed to create a blank file & Gspot it, the video codec is DivX 4 (OpenDivX)
With Audio codec adpcm (0x0002) but I still can't find software that'll encode files it'll accept.

I have just acquired one of these and been trying to get a movie file to play.

After a day of web surfing and investigating here is what i know so far

The unit is not a Telefunken but a Suga Digital (i think) see the link here
http://www.suga.com.hk/suga_inter/pdf/product_solution/MPEG4-PVP10_Nov.pdf

Also in this link on the specs it says MPEG 4 + G.726 Format

At 20 frames per second expect average results, also have a look at the file with Gspot (google is your friend) you will find that Gspot will give you more useful info.

Doesn't matter anymore, I have a Video Ipod now, The Telefunken's firmware crapped out & there was no provision for loading new software on it.
