View Full Version : HELP!!! Loewe Planus

I have a approx 5 year old Loewe Planus that I went to switch on this
afternoon and no go. I get
what I can only describe as a popping sort of sound from the speakers and no
picture what so ever.
Does this sound like its tube is dead? or maybe power supply? would it be
worth getting a service tech out?
Anything I can try myself?
Thanks

Sounds dead. My loewe died earlier this year. It was about the same vintage.
I had it repaired once, got it back, and it died again. Ending up scrapping
it.

I am a previous Planus owner, and from experience its probably the
transformer, about $250 to fix.

5 years old? If CRTs are meant to have a much longer life span than
plasmas, does that mean plasmas only last about 2 years?

Hopefully it will be a power supply problem, is the screen total dead,,
If you can find someone to give you a free opinion, or you could take the
back off and check out the components on the power supply, It might simply
be a "cap" that has popped, and just needs replacing.
Perhaps that clown that thought Loewe where the ducks nuts will front up
and give you the benefit of his knowledge,, But I doubt it. What was his
nik again,, are yes FISH

Seems a common problem. Mine is 6 years old and went about 18 months ago.

It IS a common problem with all the Loewe CRTs.
Transformer (power supply) usual cost $250 to $300
They should be repaired for free, even out of warrantee.
I don't know if the Loewe LCDs have the same problem, because I didn't want
to find out, and purchased a Sony LCD.
