How to recover a file deleted from a flashdrive?

I accidently deleted the wrong Word document from my flashdrive. Is there
any free utility (a la MS-DOS's old Undelete command) to retrieve it?

Yep

There are a heap of programs out there that can recover deleted files
from floppys, flash drives and hard drive(after the recycle bin has
been empties or files that bypass the recycle bin).

The paid ones are the best of course

But there are free ones.
