I thought they were done and dusted with their amazing run of injuries and
the illness to the Roo.
Very good effort yesterday, and well played.

Pardon my ignorance Krud, but I thought losing Burton, Mcleod, Roo and
Henschell might make a difference.
According to you losing several top players doesn't have a dramatic impact
on a team's performance?
If that's the case then Essendon really is a shit side, Lloyd or no Lloyd.
Yes?

Adl are a top sides and top sides cover injuries , I doubt they will win the
flag but will go close ..... The Bluebirds on the other hand are 1 cold or
tummy ache to any player away from oblivion ......... So you better hope
like hell they all stay healthy all the time otherwise potential 15th will
be out of the question .......!

I really can't be fucked Krud.
Yeah, we came last again, and I'm too pissed about my own team to bother
slagging yours.
31/2 wins is pathetic Krud, by anyone's standards.

chin up old son , it's done and dusted ... Being the third one in nearly as
many yrears .. they can't feel that bad anymore .....

We have trades and top drafts to think about now ..

I have to say (not being a smart arse here) .. it was not a good way to sign
the year off on .. if you kept up in the 2nd half it would have made it a
tad more easier to look forward from if you know wat I mean ........

I expected 12+ goals with the team we had on the park, 5 blokes with less
than 10 games is a quarter of the team, and playing last years premiers at
home in the business end of the season.
I suppose 1, 17 and 19 can't hurt but we're still a fair way off the pace so
it's not gonna be 2007 that's for sure.
Can't interest you in Waite for Stanton?
Hardly touched the ball today after 1/4 time.
Pick 18 maybe?

That's the least polished evasion thus far :-P

Yes, Essendon are decidedly ordinary, because the absence of Lloyd
and Hird transformed them from 'danger team who is always likely to
sneak a goal on you at the worst moment, the bastards' to 'not a
significant threat.' To be fair, they have had other injuries, but
none you'd expect to make a difference - Henneman is not going to
win you a flag. He's not quite the player he was.

Adelaide are a good side, and can cover for such appalling losses.
Good sides are defined by their depth, but all sides have their
Achilles. The loss of McLeod is a loss of class - he runs, and does
it very well, but they all run. The loss of Burton is more serious,
because the rest of their midfield doesn't kick that many goals.
Combined with the loss of Hentschel and Ricciuto, it's put a serious
hole in their capacity to score per-unit-attack. Their midfield is
still very dangerous - Edwards and Goodwin being fed by Clarke and
Biglands is always sort of ominous - but they're not scoring as
easily from that midfield's efforts. McGregror too, of course.

Essendon can't cover that kind of thing that well, but will get
draft picks and swing back up eventually. A couple of years on the
bottom is not exactly out of the question, though. If Lloyd is back
and brilliant, but the Johnsons wane on a little, then you'll have a
terrific forward with no delivery.

Carlton have acquired what everyone so desperately wants - lots of
draft picks. They've done some godawful stupid trading away of those
picks, though. Hopefully for them, they won't fall for that again. I
think overall they're probably ahead of Essendon, but for the lack
of any leadership group in the vital 24-27 age group - no one to
drag up the kiddies. I don't think Carlton's problems have been
injuries, its more trying to manage the few experienced class
players they have, so they can get their new players doing sensible
things.

They've both got problems. Wouldn't care if either went under,
frankly. They're both Evil Clubs.

If I were Essendon or Carlton, apart from being very sad I was Evil,
I would offload players for more draft picks. Of course, I think
everyone pretty much wants to do that. For example - a frontrunner
like Houlihan, plus someone less obviously useless... Lappin, or
hell, Stevens - might buy you a pick from Brisbane or the Roos.
Equally, Essendon has numerous 'ok' players that can be moved on for
the sake of acquiring picks, and making space on the list for rookies.

Now. I've solved your problems. You figure out how to persuade Shane
Parker to play on for another decade.

time will tell .... JJ had no pre season and was flying by seasons end ...

like becoming a gun ... Stanton is a top liner . Dyson starting to show a
little , Dempsey is a long term prospect that will be a lot better next year

your opinion , time will tell I guess ... they have no one to help Fev and a
horrid back line .......

and now the only ruckman they had is gone ... who will ruck ?

No one wanted Lappin last year , why would they want him this year ... 1
year older ...1

No one trades good draft picks for okay players ... that's the problem

Another year older, though.

If you get him. They'll want something quite reasonable.

Uh...well... probably. He's quite good. I wouldn't bet the farm on
him, as it were.

All fair, though next year is almost certainl Hird's last.

Ha!

Lovett is small, and small forwards don't win games on their own,
I'm convinced.

The problem is that you now have three full-forwards - Lucas, Lloyd
and Johns, who I'm surprised you didn't mention. I think you'll have
to convince Johns to the the CHF work, or Lloyd, because Lucas (I
think) has shown just how much more valuable he is, when leading
from deep in attack, than trying to play as a CHF. He's just not
quick enough or complete enough.

> your opinion , time will tell I guess ... they have no one to help Fev and a

The best defenders, I'm convinced, are now coming off rookie lists.
Failing that, draft guys as forwards and if they don't work out,
they play negative jobs on other forwards.

You won't recruit decent backmen from anywhere, I think. I worry
they'd go after Gaspar.

I think you underrate Waite and Fisher. Fisher's got 10 kilos to
add, and Waite has a kicking style to improve, but they're quite
solid prospects, IMO.

Gardiner.

You're evil *arbitrarily*, not because of a trade. Essendon,
Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond - Evil. Port have a probabationary
membership.

The delivery to Fevola today was atrocious, even by our standards.
He got hit once, by Kouta, and kicked his one and only goal.
I haven't got it in for Waite in particular.
I just reckon he's over rated by many people and he's one of the few
tradeable players we've got.
Essendon haven't got an abundance either Krud so I wouldn't be hanging on
for trade week with any sense of anticipation if I were you.
An Essendon mate suggested to me yesterday that you trade Solly!!!
For what, I asked him, a 1978 Toyota Crown?

Compo=Campo ....

I like Waite , think he is a player .....

C.J to survive will need to get very fit , very fast or might be trade bait
I see him as a CHF or CHB .. As you said no room for 3 tall forwards ...
lovett and monfries perfect crumbers off those blokes

Aka , I'd suggest to pretty close over the line in getting him ...

Gasper , nothing would surprise me ...

Don't forget we will get the best available out of contract player as The
birds won't be able to afford a top liner , if available ...

Solly has had a SHOCKER of a season , but I have to say was good in the last
4 games and did save us against you guys in those last seconds .. just for
that deserves a 1 year deal on average money .. say 150-200

You mean Leuenberger? He's supposed to be very good, but I don't think he's
as good as Bryce Gibbs.

> so many players needed , so few picks .sigggggggghhhhhhh

Aye...it sucks they removed the really good priority pick. We could've got a
top quality midfielder (Gibbs) and a top quality key defender (Hansen) or
ruckman (Leuenberger)...hopefully there's something good still available
that fits those needs at 17 and 19...

Except Carlos.
Played like his life depended on it.
Skinny, Scotto, Hoops, Blackwell, the two rookies and Fish all had a good
crack too.

Yeah, Carlos was great. There's a huge amount of potential there, it's just
a pity we can't get SOS to come down to the club and help him with some tips
on body positioning, etc.

Scotland, Carlos, Blackwell, Jackson and Bower were all pretty good. Skinny
had a pretty average game, but he did have a go.
