I've got 235 40 18s on the rx7 and they are hitting the guards quite badly
and have damaged one of the guards. Bob jane tell me that a 235 35 18 is not
available in a Z rating (or anything in 35 around that size). Is that true?
Thanks,
Michael

Yokohama V120 comes in that size, it has a Y (300kph) or W (270kph) ratings.

If you were really trying, you would. 10x160/180 less
footprint on each corner. All else being equal of course.

They've suggested I go for 225 40s but I really don't see how 10mm is going
to make much difference. They also want an extra $400 for the privilege.

I had a Cortina that when fitted with 225 tyres on the rear they would
hit the guards
but 215 didn't
might mean the difference between just rubbing the guards and damaging them
also have you checked that the suspension bushes are not worn and
allowing lateral movment of the axles?

Apparently I need a Z rating so I can travel at 300kph+. Not sure where the
logic is there when it's illegal to travel over 110 and illegal not to have
a tyre rated over 300ks.

Pirelli list 225/35ZR18 in P Zero Nero, code 1329000, list price $442
(according to my last price list, which is a bit dated).
You also have a choice of four in 225/40ZR18, ranging from $465 to
$516.
