Does anyone know why my second hand BA Falcon XT (Aug 2004) model always
has its headlight on when the ignition is on? I don't have any automatic
sensors and the manual is no help.

I know that Holdens have this option from factory. Some business cars such
as Telstra order their vehicles with this option as a saftey measure.

Next time you get it services ask Ford to disable this. Holden did it for my
last car for no charge.

That would make sense then because this is an ex-telstra car. It just
makes it harder to turn the ignition because its trying to light the
headlights and turn over.

sounds like your battery is about cactus if it has trouble starting with
just the lights on
get a better battery
having the lights on all the time won't wear anything out, except some bulbs

Both my cars have headlights on always, or at least while starting in
the case of the Golf GTI and no problems turning the engine over. Your
battery is probably in need of replacement.

Telstra car , have it disabled at the service , and have the battery
checked for load , should be about $100.00 for a two year warranty
replacement

I once had a commodore with this feature, from memory turn the key to to
accessories and wait for 5 seconds, then start the car. IIRC this
turned the lights off while trying to start

If that's the genuine dealer fitted accessory then I'd be interested to
know exactly what they've done... charged $180 to run a wire and diode
between the ignition line and the headlamp relay? :) I thought for that
price it would have been something a little smarter, ie only switching
the lights on once the engine is actually turning.
