Selfmade IR cam under the oven...

Suggestions for bait welcome!

Currently peanut butter because that worked last time.

Sunflower seeds. Stale bread with honey smeared on it also apparently works
well.

This would be useless for under an oven, but I've found the best mouse
trap to be a metal garbage bin with a bit of meat or cheese in the bottom.

We've got a family of mice in the garage and roof. Put a few traps in
but they rarely get caught in them. At one stage though we were getting
one or two a week going for the food in the bin and not able to get out
again.

Love it :)

Peanut butter has always worked well for me also.

One of the engineering groups I frequent had a contest of sorts for workshop
mousetraps recently, and being mostly an American group some of the
"inventions" were a tad over the top. Some included high voltage and
ingenious drowning methods, but my favourite was the guy who rigged up a
cylindrical "cage" with a high pressure pneumatic ram at one end of it
triggered by a microswitch.

The idea being that the mouse entered through an opening in the side of the
cylinder, walked over the switch on it's way to the bait and had a 4 inch
diameter air ram push it's arsehole through it's ears in a nanosecond :)

Apparently it worked quite well, but I would have liked to have seen that
hooked up to a camera :)

Now we're right.

1. The bait holder is way to high. Set it as close to
horizontal as possible (put a little kink in the plate if
needed) and bend the two ends away from each other so that
there's only a couple of mill between the bait-plate and the
wooden/plastic base.
2. Then when you set it, think of it as a hair trigger,
balanced on the finest edge. If it's not fine enough, they'll
beat you every time.
3. The mice cannot now get under the bait and the slightest
downward pressure will snap them.
4. It won't hurt like a rabbit trap, promise. :-)
5. Pumpkin seeds work, as does soft cheese.

Did it actually squash the mouse, or just pressurise it to several
atmospheres?

I guess that the camera would have to in the fixed end of the cylinder beyond
the bait. You'd also need a high-speed camera that would be replayed in slow
motion. :-)

There ya go ag'in.
Do I have to explain it?
Nah, have another read. ;-)

OK, a hint.
Why did I ask "where"?

Squashed it into jelly apparently :)

Haven't got time for your idiocy.
It was *offline* (black screen) when I looked first time.
That's why I asked "where". Couldn't expect you to work that
out with your feeble little brain.

Me either. I've got my cams trained on the two nesting boxes
that four pair of Eastern Rozella's are squabbling over. :-(

Mine cams don't go online, though I'm getting a bit of footage
of the "picky picky" behavior of the females. Fussy, all of
them. :-)

No cams on the froggies then?
