If the police can do it, why cannot we ???
www.smh.com.au/news/national/policeman-caught-178-in-a-110-kmh-zone/2006/09/04/1157222033816.html
================================================== ================
A police officer has been caught speeding almost 70 kph over the limit
in southern NSW.
Patrol officers conducting random speed checks noticed the man as he
travelled south along the Hume Highway at the Goulburn bypass about 2am
(AEST) yesterday.
The officers clocked him driving at 178 kph in a 110 kph zone, police
said.
The 27-year-old Mt Pritchard man, who is a serving officer at
Marrickville Local Area Command, was issued an infringement notice for
exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 kph.
He also had his licence suspended for six months, police said.

Surprised he didn't know to take it easy through that section as (a)
that's one of their most popular spots and (b) they're hard to spot
there at night.

You're perfectly at liberty to do that, and suffer the same penalty as
he did.

Maybe you're reading something different to what I am. A police
officer did it, got caught and received an infringement. You can
do exactly the same thing if you wish.

That section of road is a looooooong flat straight. I typically keep the speed to a max of about 115 km/h on that road, as there's too many places for the coppers to hide...(and they do).

I think police who break road rules, drink drive, etc
are usually made a bit more an example of as they
should/do know better, if anything.

I'll have to remember that. I usually do 124km/h by the GPS on all 110
zones in NSW and have been speed checked with radar and lidar without
being pulled over. 121 is 10%, so guaranteed safe. I might have to
slow just for that stretch. :-)

I agree. The extra punishment should be the loss of his job. Speeding a
little bit can be a mistake, but 68km is no mistake. It was a choice to
ignore the law and endanger innocent people. No person who ignores the
should be trusted to enforce it.
I could forgive him if he was doing 100km in a 40km road work zone at 2am,
if he missed the roadwork signs. But there is no speed zone even remotely
close to the 178km he was doing. There is no way you can go that fast and
not know you are speeding.
