As I have to deal with around 300+ emails a day (everything
work related, personal, or whatever ends up at the same delivery
box) and I'm postmaster for a large mail exchanger, and have to
respond to cries for help email from various bits of hardware and
software that need their nose blown or arse wiped, and scan
summary lists of what was captured as spam.
I need to cut back on email.
Previous posting email address was forwarded to main email address,
however have had disabled now to give "connection refused", it
will not exist again for a while until it drops off spammers lists. The
new email address I won't read, as it is a spam trap, so if anyone
emails me on it (by reply to post, or whatever), will have to ping
me in NG to check the email.
"Thank you for your subscription to" and various spam was
getting a bit too much.

with hotmail you can block ip individual and range , great for
email-killing spam and pricks .

I don't use hotmail for my main email though as I'm
postmaster for my own email service, run my own
site's spam filter, etc. Easier to simply disassociate
NGs from any of my own email so I simply don't have
to bother with configure/maintain of it. Just go there
and do a delete/all from time to time so it does not
fill up.
The way I do spam filtering on my main email
account (which has a number of addresses) is
3 times daily email summary of sender/subject
sent to me which I scan quickly as there may
be stuff in there that are valid, however correct
caught by the rules because they were in some
really silly HTML format or had really broken
headers because they were produced by
insane or non standard, or incorrectly configured
email servers/clients.
Separate email for NG means I don't even have to
scan or look at quarantined sender/subject tuff to
figure if it is valid or not, because by definition it
is all invalid unless someone tells me in a NG they
sent something to it.
