What amazes me is with all the different types of transmissions trucks
have is that drivers are expected to be able to jump into any truck and
drive it without extra training.
Isn't the transport industry just fucking wonderful:-)

Just fucking dandy when you have a rig with 575 hp and no load. ;-)

My interest was initally attracted by the mention fo the DAF brand.
Some years ago I drove a DAF body truck (around 5ton capacity iirc) it
had a torque converter and a continuously variable transmission
controlled by a lever marked "high" to "low".
Brilliant to drive, but the boss punted it damm quick cause it used to
eat the 1' wide belts that rode on conical rollers to do the
"infinitely variable" bit.

I would love to get a B series mack and restore it but not with the 6
cylinder but one with an original V8 diesel*.
*= rare as fuck though.

I drive a DAF so the hence the original post.
Its a CF75.310 single drive pulling a 45' triaxle drop deck tautliner, I
deliver foam to bedding and furniture companies so fully loaded it
rarely gets over 20 tonne so 310 hp is enough to move it along very
nicely:-)

DAF were famous for their CVT's and other makers have only recently
discovered them.
IMO the current DAF trucks are excellent.

considering some of the blokes in the industry it's amazing more dont
suffer a horrible end , I had to do an occy + safety course recently and
one bloke damned near got a smack in the mouth with his cultivated
ignorance but I got even and failed him. :)

A bloke who lives in Lara Vic. still uses an F series Mack everyday
carting car parts for Denso.
He spent a lot of money on it a few years ago doing a full rebuild, it
doesn't look much but its a reliable workhorse.

ya know what's wrong with having 600 hp and running a single trailer?
