View Full Version : virus
hello
just received this e mail from a friend who thinks he has a
virus,he is using mcafee and needs some help, thanks
tony
What specific identification details about the virus did your av software return? All but impossible to say much without that info.
One suggestion though, if your av package has a facility for scanning and repairing all files on the drive from DOS, like NAV does, then run it and see what heppens. Sometimes that reveals more than running a scan from within windows.

Managed to get the av messages written down. This is what happens:
After I have been on the net for a while the screen suddenly goes blank and the following message appears:
Windows
An error has occured. To continue:
bla, bla, bla
File name: VFAT(01)+00006800 Error: OE:0028:C00462F0
I press Enter and the same Windows error message pops up with File name:
0D:0246:014F47FB
Press Enter and get:
AVG Resident Shield
Virus
Windows internal error, please reboot
is found in file
C:\WINDOWS\APPLICATION DATA\MICROSOFT\INTERNET EXPLORER\QUICK LAUNCH\SHORTCUT TO SHOW DESKTOP.LNK
This message is on for 28 seconds then goes to desktop. I click the mouse and up it comes again with:
Bla, bla
is found in file
C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\MY BRIEFCASE\DESKTOP.INI
Goes back to desktop. Click again and get:
is found in
C:\WINDOWS\DESCTOP\WRITING\DESKTOP.INI
and again:
C:\PROGRA~I\DAP\DAP.EXE
Then the same messages are repeated until I restart the computer.
Original virus was:
I-Worm/BadTrans
it was in file:
C:\_RESTORE\TRMP\A0027958.CPY
AV could not delete it.
Then today I ran the av and it said no viruses were found. Even after I get the warnings above from the av programme and then run the av programme it says no viruses were found!
This is doing my head in! Help!!!!!
I have windows 2000 ME

if he has vMcAfee virus shield he should be contacting his scanner vendor instead.
and i will not go anywhere near a file that came from anyone with a virus,.
