View Full Version : My Toilet

The cistern of my toilet has dual 6/3 litre flush capacity. 62% of the time
I need to flush twice (at 6 litres) to get all of my big shits down.
The cistern can be altered to 9/5 litres. Can someone please crunch the
numbers to see which option will use less water.
Thanks.

It depends on how many revs you have on board when you drop the clutch. Perhaps an oversize length of flush pipe and a chamfered S-bend will get you over the line.
Hot rodding a dunny to handle oversized dumps sounds like a charming weekend project.

Hmmm, 5 might be a tad too much, however not by a lot, and
is a good option.
It's 9 litre option may be a good choice too. You could flush only
every 2nd time (pour some flower smelling something over it after
first use after a flush).
Might be a rare time that you would have to do a double flush
on the 9 litre, however eat food that makes them a little more runny
and all should be good.
Bugger it. Piss in a bucket and just use that combined with
the 3 litre flush.

Hi David,
ASSumption #1: all your shits are big, so you shit 62% of the time you go to
the toilet => you piss 38% of the time
ie. flush twice at 6 litres 62.5% of the time, once at 3 litres the rest
ASSumption #2: a 9 litre flush will send your best efforts around the bend
and on their way.
So: 6/3 means an average disposal of 8.58 litres of water
and 9/5 means an average disposal of 7.48 litres of water
You would have to take 9/5.
Cheers,

Ewww. I'll bear it in mind to wash them from now on.
It's also a bit of a trick question. You could argue 62% of
the time is 62% of a shite, which requires less than 3 l,
or you could argue that bugger all over 3 litres is required
as 62% is 6% of shite volume ... or ... the mind boggles.
Errr, I'll stop now as my brain hurts, and I'm getting
grossed out.
Go with the 5 l flush, while "ooops - feck, have to
wait for the stupid thing to fill up again" look is something
far less than a PITA at the time, it's still not a good look.

You need to get your dunny bowl intake area ported and polished. This will
allow you to back out even the largest loads using a minimal amount of
water.

Don't eat so much!
BTW, the small flush can be adjusted. It has a screw on top that does it.

Seriously?
Call a plumber...either the cistern is not delivering a full flush, or
the thing is installed wrong...does the outlet go thru the floor,
straight out the back, or out the side?

Got a similar problem. Moved into a new place, and the cistern is very
small. Even so it's still got a "half flush" mode (which is just a hold
to flush, rather than full flush).
Anyway, I have to flush twice in the morning after you know what
because there's usually some left over. Doesn't seem to be much
thorough testing in the toilet engineering business.
Although with such a small cistern, at least I don't feel bad flushing
every time I pee, because it's not using such a massive amount of water.
