Hi all

Im looking for a brand name dvd/divx player.

I've done a fair bit of reading on this and many other sites about DVD/DIVX players and what chipsets are in use etc etc. Ive concluded that as I have a lot of divx/xvid videos I think the chipset that shows the most promise is probably the Zoran Vaddis 888 as it offers GMC 3 support (which as a lot of people would know is fairly common in xvid encoded movies) amongst other useful features.

So my question is can anybody recommend a well known long established brand name divx player such as LG, Phillips etc with this chipset. Also if the said player has USB (particularly USB 2.0 support) that'd be an added bonus also but not essential.

Cheers for the help
Darky

I think you have pretty much narrowed it down.
There is an LG that should have the Zoran 888, not sure about USB2.
Hopefully 3 warp point works as claimed, as it would be the only one. (that I know of).
Modded xbox if you don't mind the noise from the fan/hdd might be worth a look.
Z500 will give you USB2, but not 3 warp point.
Must be a big sticking point for you (3WP GMC) though, as I saw you post on WP as well.
I must admit that I rarely have come across 3WP GMC in normal ah -browsing-.

The reports I have seen on the Zoran powered LG is that it didn't fall over when it came to 3WP GMC files, but it didn't play them smoothly either, not sure if this is typical of all Zoran chipset units or specific to the LG

I can say that my LG has had no problems with any "ah -browsing-" files

So if there was much content with 3WP GMC out there I have not come accross it.

I had to regularly re-do files with my Z300 to run smoothly, but thats a pretty old machine by generational standards (IMHO).

I can say the TEVION DVDHD 250 has hiccups occasionally on some files. Still haven't really tested it out on dixv/mpeg four playing yet.
