View Full Version : No digital SBS reception inAdelaide?

Hi there,

Just wondering, does anyone know if there are any problems with SBS
digital reception in Adelaide?

I have not been able to receive anything for the last week. I checked
the Thomson' STB settings for SBS and they are correct. I have manually
rescanned and the STB reports that no channels could be found.

All the other channels work fine and nothing else has changed at my end.
Analog SBS still works.

Any suggestions, anyone??

Thanks
HL

I don't watch SBS much, but the reception was fine yesterday when I saw it.
Do you get yours direct from Mt. Lofty or from the translator in the CBD?
Mine is the former.

I use these settings

Adelaide 33 564.500

Last night SBS at least appeared but it was very choppy. Haven't had a
chance to look at it today.

Like, where are you in Adelaide?

Helps when posting if a suburb can be mentioned so specific information might be given.

Could be you have a crap combination TV antenna that drops off above UHF channel 28 where SBS analogue is. Digital at UHF channel 33 as you mention may not work as well on such an antenna.

All this assumes your signal is from Mt Lofty and not the black stump in Grenfell St.

I'm at Ingle Farm.

Digital SBS had been working perfectly with the existing antenna which
is a large on-roof type and then all of a sudden a week or so ago it
simply stopped receiving digital SBS.

OK. Power off then back on, do a factory reset, re-scan all channels and see if this fixes it.

Assuming your antenna hasn't moved in the wind.

I'm at Golden Grove
SBS and SBS2 seems to be OK during day but drops out at night -
antenna aimed at Mt Lofty, I get good signal strength using Topfield
5000 PVR

I think the channel 33 you mentioned is from Mt. Lofty. Do you have line of
sight to the masts in the hills? If not, you may be in a bit of a shadow
zone and reception could be affected by atmospheric conditions. I don't know
whether you are too far north to pick up the signals from the translator in
the city (which are beamed toward the foothills and are on UHF for all
channels, not just SBS as Mt. Lofty is). That would involve rotating the
antenna toward the city and rescanning for the different channel
frequencies.

Probably your SBS reception is at the digital cliff and it didn't take much of a signal loss to tip over the cliff and lose your signal.

Your current antenna would not be suitable for Grenfell Centre.

If you want SBS, you either need to get in an antenna person with a digital meter to do some proper readings for you, or get a separate UHF antenna for either Mt Lofty SBS, or perhaps the translator from Elizabeth South water tower here:

ABC 64 & SBS 61 come from this site atm.
