View Full Version : A Nero/DVD drive problem?

Hey ...

Have been burning MP3s onto a DVD+R disc with Nero as data files and the
burning seems to go okay (including file verification). I have not closed
the disc.

My DVD drive is then unable to recognise that there is even a disc in there
when I put it back in. My lounge room DVD player recognises the disc,
however. I wondered if it was because I hadn't closed the disc, so I used
Nero to try to close it. That seemed to go fine until the 90% mark, when it
spits it out and says there is no disc in the drive. Before closing the
disc, however, Nero DID recognise it.

The odd thing is that this is the second compilation I've made and the first
one worked out fine. I've had two goes at burning this second compilation
and neither attempt has worked out. Anyone?

It might also be of note that in My Computer, when I put the DVD in, it's
saying that my DVD drive is a CD drive for some reason.

What is your OS? What burner and media? Did you try again with
another disc? Were any of the discs multi-session?

I use 98SE and it doesn't support multi-session DVD+R discs, though it
burnt them OK. I use DVD+RW instead which work fine.

Can't come up with any obvious reason. Just make sure you have the
latest updates for Nero and drive firmware, which I believe is version
1.22. This drive is getting a bit long in the tooth.

You can get a RPC1 version of the firmware 1.21 from
http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org/#PIONEER_IDE or version 1.22 from
http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/content/support/support/software.html
R107D_FW122.EXE

If your drive has old or original firmware it might be having
difficulty with newer media.

Thanks for that. I'll give it a shot.

No such luck.
I tried the discs I burnt on a friend's drive and it recognised them fine.
I'd say it's just a drive/media conflict, which is odd, given that one out
of the three discs actually worked.

Perhaps the drive is on the way out. It could have a dirty lens, or
perhaps it has received a knock when it was reading or burning which
put the laser out of alignment or perhaps the laser itself is dying.
Have you considered getting a new drive? I am still using my 8x
LiteOn SOHW-832s as it has given me sterling service but I will add a
new drive in the near future as media is so much faster now.

It is true that some drives are picky about media. Mine doesn't like
Princo but excels with Optodisc OR4/8.

Meh ... I'll be getting a new computer within a few months, so that'll fix
that, hopefully.
