Because why does their fucking EPG suddenly "appear" on my STB all the time,
with a crawl prior stating that its "re-assigning" my digital channels? WTF?
I mean really: WHAT THE FUCK?

Well, it happens in Sydney quite regularly.

Sounds like an issue with your STB to me.

No no no. A tin foil hat will fix all his problems.

But on two separate boxes (one a Topfield 4400)? And I doubt it's a STB
issue anyway because as I said, Seven broadcasts a crawl live on-air before
doing it, so there you go.

I have a Topfield 5000PVRt - haven't seen what you are talking about at all.

ditto I have a Topfield 5000PVRt and a Strong STB and a Aldi el cheapo and
have never seen it on any of them. Also never observed on my Dvico PCI card
HDTV card.

What brand and details of your STB might be useful for info in finding the
problem - maybe it's a signal strength or signal quality issue that is
causing the problem? Especially for Channel 7. If you have a standard TV
aerial that is capable of reception down to Channel 2 and up and you have
local interference, that may be the problem. There are no digital channels
in Oz below ch6 in the spectrum and heaps of interference in the channel 1
to 3 area can cause problems. So a digital specific antenna can fix a lot of
problems.

If you have a Topfield go to the Topfield forum and ask there as there are
many people on that forum who will offer sensible advice

It's NOT a box issue -- the crawl is BROADCAST (for the third time).

Well how about sharing with us the brand and model number of the STB even if
it isn't the box as you assert. It is interesting that no one else seems to
have seen the phenomena. Some STB boxes do have the capacity to generate a
local scrolling graphic information triggered by a signal from the TV
station. Although as far as I know not used in Australia. My LCD flat panel
can theoretically do a channel rescan based on a trigger from a station and
will indicate it is doing so - never happened though. Rather than just
ruling something out it is more helpful to finding a solution by examining
all possibilities even though it may seem not probable and the best way to
do that is to provide all the information. Still some people are happy to
have an unresolved problem and just remain irritated. Horses for courses!!

So you are watching Ch7 when it happens? or not?
Ch7 generally transmit 3 SD and 1 HD channel here. (regional QLD)
They ocassionally reallocate what each of those is.
However my box is not set to rescan channels when they do so it doesn't
affect my other channels.

Yes. Each time. If it happens again I'll record it.

Honestly, to the rest of us it sounds like you delete the VPG channel, and
your box does some kind of auto rescan alerting you that it has found "new"
channels.
